You will loose.

I had the opportunity to run against a stock GMC Duramax HD. I said " haha! No thanks" because I know I would have lost since I have never raced before.

Should have agreed to that race because a stock Duramax HD is a low 16 second truck. A Duramax with a "chip" and intake typically goes lower 15s@88mph.

you will lose.

Since you already agreed ask for a couple of car lengths or no power braking since he probably has 4x your torque.

Remember you are stock and he is modded so everything is going for him.

Come to think of it since you already agreed with no rules to help you good luck and have someone take a video because he will beat you off the line before your car starts to move.

I totally understand the whole torque argument with these diesels, but we do need to put some things into perspective.

1) The trucks weigh 6,500lbs+. They will obviously powerbrake to build boost, but it's very rare to see a modded diesel yank a 1.8 or lower 60'. There's just too much mass.

2) Diesels have very narrow power bands. They make gobs of torque, but very little HP. Peak torque comes on nearly instantly (~1100rpms), but HP and TQ are only sustained till about 3800rpms or so. After that, power drops like an anvil. HP is a factor of torque vs rpm. Since diesels don't rev nor breath in the upper rpms, they can't sustain significant HP.

3) In order to ride the narrow powerband, the truck has to be be shifting a lot. All this takes time. The frontal area and big tires hurt them on the far end of the strip too. All these factors often lead to low MPHs related to ET.

With all that said, there are some seriously quick diesels out there (10/11 seconds) but they're very rare. Most modded street driven diesels are in the 13s, 14s, and 15s. It takes major coin to go sub 13s and reliability goes right out the window. The expense to repair a late model diesel is very expensive which is why you see so few getting pushed hard like you do gas motors. Many Duramax and Ford 6.0/7.3 Powerstroke pop when adding just 20% more power.

dave i get what your saying about these trucks but the fact of the matter is all the truck needs to do is run a low 14 and he takes the money.

Most stock sedans run about mid 14. you ran a little faster but you most likely have more track time then the OP. The guy with the truck if he is willing to put up $500 and have a modded truck, most likely he isn't a noob to the track either.

low 14's is all it takes to beat him, and all of us here agree, it doesn't take much to do that. I get smashed on the highway by these things and honestly their wheel/tires look like they outweight my car.

This was what the OP said:

"so the kid has a 1997 cummins diesel long box extended cab 4 wheel drive with a custom tune which is equivalint to a chip he says, 100 hp injectors, 16* of timing, afc, no fuel plate, 4k gsk, 60 lb valve springs, afe air intake, 4 inch downpipe, straightpiped, a fully billit automatic transission with a triple disc torque converter, custom valve body, billut input shaft i dont know what all that means but thats what he told me it dynos at 326 hp and he woulnt tell me the torque...."

The guy the OP is racing has:
-5.9L Cummins w/180hp, 420ft lbs stock (since he has an auto)
-Curb weight is 4649lbs since it's a extended cab long bed (per the OP)

OP, the thing you have going for you is that it's an extended car long bed, which is the heaviest version. However, he's probably gonna beat you. He might even have a better power to weight ratio, hahaha.

IF you want to have ANY chance, strip out your car and get a spacer. Also pay attention to what people have told you about launch techniques and practice you shifts in MM.

I agree with everything you're saying. Even in my car's current state and my DR experience, I wouldn't race this Dodge Ram 2500 TD. These diesel guys are sneaky and will typically understate their mods more so than any other gearhead group I've hung out with. If the Dodge is making 326whp then it's likely pushing 800wtq. That's a pretty healthly diesel truck and it's one of the lighter ones out there (~5,200lbs).

I've played with numerous Cummins Trucks and drove one for a couple years. I really don't think that a light bolt on truck with a stock turbo is going put distance on a stock g. If that thing makes 3XX whp and lets say 550-600wtq, it might go mid 14s at best. I'm not sure what he means by fully built trans, but thats where those trucks make ET and trap. Stock programming in the ECU/TCM aggressively defuels the tune after 2500rpm to conserve engine life and no piggy back tune can get rid of that.

What that all means is don't race him from a dig as that thing will hook and roll. On a "highway" pull, the G should pull unless of course hes being misleading on mods.

I went 13.90s @ 101 on just an 3" exhaust with my 06 G35 Sedan Sport 6MT, and I know my old Cummins 24V 2500 that made roughly 450 to 500 whp would yank my Sedan but not by much.

We should go to the track this spring. I have to take care of a few issues with my sedan, but if you want to go to Norwalk or Dragway 42 I'd be more than happy to tag along. It's rare to see another sedan at the strip. I am currently located in the Cleveland area. Also, what kind of 3" exhaust?
