Wheel Hop

Last night at Capitol Raceway, I was unable to launch with any throttle because of wheel hop.

How are the drag racers in here dealing with this? Is it taken care of simply with after market springs? In other cars I have had, that took care of it.

Currently, I have to baby it out the hole, without the possibility of a high rpm drop/slip.

Comments.

Installling stiffer bushings is the usual remedy for wheel hop.

Do you mean sway bar bushings or strut mounts or all of them?

Probably you need a better diff bushing. Energy suspension makes them for our cars now. What did you run? You should roll with us to Cecil in a couple of weeks.

13.8 @103.5 with all that hopping. It was a little cold out (50's), and that may have a little to do with it.

I had bad wheel hop, really really bad. Switching to MT E/T streets (bias ply) on the track solved it 100%. If you have a 6MT I wouldn't recommend any other tire type on the 1/4. Our drivetrain is too mushy, you need a tire that is even mushier . The awesome traction doesn't hurt either.

Some stuff to check out before dumping a bunch of money into your suspension and drivetrain and possibly sacraficing streetability:

* check is your rear diff bushing you may have already popped it it making matters even worse.
* let some air out of the rear tires down to 25psi, pump some extra in the front up to 40psi
* rear alignment may be out of spec
* get some bias plys

There are also rear diff support bars that are supposed to help, the ET streets are supposed to be among the best solutions.

Here is a picture of one with a Nismo finned cover. This one was made by Injected/Dynosity

SO would replacing the Diff bushing really eliminate wheel hop? Would after market traction bars help? The wheel hop is killing me on my launch and when I hit 2nd...

Diff tires, stiffer bushings, diff springs, lower tire pressure, all good suggestions

Start with cheapest... Tire pressure, then bushings

Wheel hop kills my times too. I lose about .2 off my e.t.'s just because of it.

I have SPL differential bushings and it took away about 50%. The other solution would be to replace the rear subframe bushings in conjunction with the SPL rear diff bushings. For hardcore drag racers, I wouldn't recommend anything else besides SPL's diff bushings. The diff won't move at all, but since the diff is connected to the rear subframe, all that energy is then transfered to the subframe bushings, which is why one should also replace the subframe bushings also.

Here's a video of my wheelhop problem. Maybe the same as yours? At the time I only had an X02 exhaust and cheap test pipes if i can remember correctly.

That is exactly what happens to me... Thanks for the video. So did the Diff and subframe bushing replacement help alot?

A few companies are making these diff braces now.....I would try that before bushings since this is a bolt on and doesn't require removing the diff and pushing the bushings out. maybe it's just me but I would try the simplest solution first.
