damn - that mph sucks! that just goes to show the difference between a roots-supercharged G35X and a turbo G coupe (which trap closer to 110)

I just did the one mod that has/will help my 1/4 mile times more than anything else - swapped out the complete pumpkin from a 350Z 6MT w/ VLSD - and I can't even explain the difference in acceleration that the 3.53 gears make! 350Z 5AT guys that have done this have seen over a 1/2 sec decrease in 1/4 mi times, and I don't argue one bit... this has definitely been the most worth-while mod to date (and I've spent alot of $$$ already!)

Is it better to let the transmision in automatic mode or to shift manually when racing?

ericsmartin-It's much better to shift yourself than to let the car shift for you and turn VDC off.

bzabodyn-Don't be to concerned with your MPH. I know is seems logical that your the higher the MPH the quicker the time. I proved that wrong this past Friday. My best time was 14.369 with bald tires at 96.60. My speed was so low because I couldn't get traction at the start. Here's how the slip looks:
60' 2.314
330' 6.172
1/8 9.344
MPH 77.46
1000 12.071
1/4 14.369
MPH 96.60
Before this my fastest time and MPH was 14.40 at 98.90.
The next day we (the Florida G35 Club) had a dyno day. It turns out my either my plugs are fouled or a cylinder is misfiring. So I have to get it checked out. I wonder what I would have run with good tires and not had the plug or cylinder problem.
My Mods: Crawford Plenum, Crawford, Headers, Crawford Cats, Z-Tube & K&N dropin

Yeah, reaction time might determine who wins the race, but it has nothing to do with your quarter mile time.

opps sorry. i thought reach the finish line with less time is better than having higher speed and longer time.

V12, check out these links for a good explanation of how staging/timing works: NHRA: The Basics and Staging Light: Reaction Time Clinic

It should become clear that reaction time has nothing to do with 1/4 mile elapsed time or top speed, because timing doesn't start until your tire leaves the staging beam. Reaction time only matters when it comes to beating the car in the other lane to the finish line. With a poor reaction time, it's possible to have a faster elapsed time than your opponent, but still lose the race to the finish.

I have an 05 at with the 19" performance wheel/tire package and have yet to lose traction or experience any wheel spin on a few wot launches (stop sign/light variety), with the vdc both on and off (I felt no difference). anyone else with this setup experience anything different?

maxpower-are you reving the engine or just punching it when you take off? If your not reving the engine you should still get a little chirp.

Hmm everyone I know chirps a little. I don't know if this would have anything to do with it or not but do you heat up your tires before the run? It could also have something to do with track conditions.

Little off topic
The track I go to in Orlando is going to have a reality show filmed there. It's called "Pink". For obvious reasons pink slips. It will be anyone off the street who wants to race for pink slips. Should be pretty cool.

I need to know something as I just installed the vortech and I was told that if I drive normally I can leave the vdc on but if I drive fast then I need to turn it off as it will go lean on 2 banks, is this true or did they install it differently. I have a 5at.

There is a lot of debate about VDC and motor operation. Do a search on my350z.com on the subject.

There are a lot of people who feel that VDC is harmless to the motor since it controls your throttle body (myself included) and there are a large amount of poeple who feel that VDC can cause catostrophic engine damage.
