So, Monday night my buddy calls me up saying he's headed over to work to meet up with some guys who were just getting out. My friend drives an 04 STI and his co-worker drives an 04 G35 5AT coupe with extensive NA work (i,h,e, plenum, ecu, and I think some internals). He starts the coupe and revs. It sounds like a beast! But I don't care. I want to race this guy. I have an 05 6MT Sedan.
He wanted to roll start because he was complain of wheelspin (which didn't really make sense to me because he can't possibly have THAT much more torque than me, I'm guessing). Anyway I obliged and the rolling starts just weren't working. He would take off before me, we were never lined up right, inconsistent results, yada yada. So finally I said "Let's race straight up, off the line, 3 honks. He was down.
Two VQs is a beautiful sound. We were dead even through my first 2 gears. When I shifted to 3rd I PULLED AHEAD by a few feet. We cut it off by about 95mph. I thought the guy would be a little upset that a bone stock sedan could do that, but he was cool about it. No excuses.
This was my first race ever in this car. I'd never even peeled out in it before that night. I was very surprised by the outcome. But then I got a reality check when my friend with the STI beat me senseless by 2 lengths, but that's not important.
Next, it's off to the drag strip to get some times. Predictions...?

Where is the drag strip? What's the altitude? Have you ever drag raced before?

I've been to the track before (Moroso in West Palm Beach), but not with this car. I'm going to try a launch at 3100 rpm and then take it from there. 14.2 sounds reasonable.

Codeflux, thanks for the advice but I'm not concentrating on any engine mods for a long time. I'm saving for 19" Volks. That's going to take a while.
