Drifting shocks everything from the engine back. Depends on the method you use. Just powering over is probably the least damaging, but a lot of people will kick the clutch in 2nd or 3rd gear to make the rear end break lose right when they want it to. Your car spends more time in the upper RPMs under a hard load, your clutch is going to wear a lot faster - especially if you don't know what you're doing, and I'm sure the stock VLSD isn't going to last long at all spinning the tires like that.
So yeah... drifting is a pretty taxing sport. The occational drift won't hurt you much.

Mike - thanks as always for putting time into raising the education level on this board. Your comments on this topic in addition to a previous topic on skip-shifting (not good for our 6MT's) has made a difference for numerous people including myself.
