balancing tires

After changing tires on 17" drift wheels, specifically used for drifting only, is it necessary to get them balanced? A member from my350z.com said it's not necessary and he doesn't get them balanced but i want to hear more opinions from other drifter.

thankzz guys

You wont need to get them balanced at all.

the reason I asked is because I talked to a viper owner who pretty much has all the modifications you can think of. he autocrosses his car. I asked him if I need to balance he tires for drift and he said it would be better if I do because if I don't, then the rear tires will be bouncing the whole time drifting. will my tires wear evenly without the wear pattern u get when they are not balaced?

I think he's talking about a road force balance. It is possible for the tires to bounce if they're not balanced. I say do it.

changing tires and balancing cost like $30 for only two tires. I definitely don't wanna spend that much everytime I I change tires. some installers might just change the tires for free if not balanced. just my guess

Your talking about a regular balance. A road force balance is different and cost more. If you going to be drifting you might want to get this done.

yes i'm talking about the regular balance. I never heard of a road force balance. So is REGULAR balance necessary for drift?
i don't think i want to do road force balance.

It doesnt matter for drifting. It matters for grip racing. It will not cause your car to hop help with tire wear while drifting. You should have your front wheels balanced. I don't think I know any drifter who balances rear wheels.

Normally garages quote prices including valves and balancing. The valve need replacing as a matter of course with the tyre. Balancing involves weighting the wheel to ensure smooth vibration free revolution. Every wheel and tyre will be slightly eccentrically weighted due to variances in materials etc during manufacture. The balancing corrects this to reduce vibration etc and to prevent uneven wear.

Yep. 4 bucks to just mount. 7 to mount n balance for a tire that will be on there for about a day. Not worth it.

serious? IIRC big o tires quoted me $20~30 to balance and mount for 2 rims.
I got my fronts mounted and balanced for $10 last time from somewhere else.

no you will not need to get them balanced if they are only for drifting. think about it the wheelspeed and size of the wheels on a viper is alot higher then a g35 so that could make it a little more prone to the bouncing but that would mostly be in the suspension setup.

i have been drifting for going on 3 years now and my car has retarted amount of camber so i have to flip tires to get full life and have never had a bouncing problem like your viper freind said
