6-MT, Rear Diff Fluid Change

OK, I've searched the Site, but I'm trying to get a final decision on what to use in the 6-MT, and in the Rear Diff. Looks like there is some varying opinions on what to use. I'm using mobil 1 in the engine, looks like you can use a Mobil 1 product for the rear, but not the Tranny... Just lookin for some help in making my decision.
Thanks

Considering the prices of a viscous differential $2500 plus labor.........if you care about longevity just change it every year as even well maintained units usually get noisey around 200,000 miles [historical from Q/J/M] however cost cutting of recent designs WARN that they may not last as long.

The FSM infers that every 30,000 miles is enough, enough for who?

A change at the first 1,000 miles is something that might yield much more than the $50 cost in dividends.............always examine the magnet [wipe on white paper towel], smell the lube ..........you can learn alot.

Unfortunately I don't have the history to know if the Fluids were ever changed Prior to now, probably not. I bought it used and I just hit 30K, so I was going to change it per the manual. I just wanted to be sure that I use theCorrect Fluids.

shell spirax s

Highly recommend Shell Spirax S synthetic gear lube. I use it in both my tranny and rear differential. I switched to Shell Spirax after the first 1000 miles.

Check out this link for more details:

I noticed allot of old threads surrounding the topic of the Transmission and Sythetic Lube, or anything other than Nissan voiding the warranty-stuff about the Syncros, Has anyone had an issue with using synthetic in the 6-MT? I was leaning towards the Amsoil, because its easy to get as apposwed to the Shell, which I have no isdea where to purchase. Doesn't seem to be a big deal in swapping out the Rear Diff fluid to Synthetic, just the tranny.

I use syn in both the rear diff and tranny of my 6mt. Lucas 75W-90 with a friction modifier that is designed for both diffs and trannys.

The tranny is very sensitive to using the right stuff. GL4 rating. It has been reported some of the fluids like motul 3000 are actually too slippery and the tranny has not worked well with them. Others have found it fine though.

I agree with Q45 tech about changing the diff at 1000 miles. I don't know why Nissan wouldn't spec an earlier change for the diff. I did mine at about 4k miles and it was the dirtiest black crap I can recall seeing come out of a vehicle. There was at least a 1/4 inch of paste (filings) all over the magnet.
