Hey I got my G35 Coupe 6MT w/Premium package at the end of December. I am having problems shifting into second gear. I can't seem to figure out what da hell is going on. I've been driving my friends S2000 and my cuz's Golf, and am having no problems. I thought I would have to break in the clutch and I'd be ok, but its around 500 miles right now. hehe didn't drive it around alot after being frustrated for soo long. well the description goes.... I drive up to around 3500 rpm and then shift, well i get this jerky movement, like I would if I would let go of the clutch to early, but I am letting go as slow as I would into my other gears, even slower at times just to feel it out. I know I am kinda new to driving manual since I dont drive stick around all the time, this is my first manual car, I've driven others before. Any help, before i kill my clutch?

 

it probably has to do with the very short clutch and stick shifts....don't worry about it too much and don't ride the clutch alot cause you will just wear it down prematurely.....just keep practicing and you will get the hang of it. From what I understand even those who have driven manual their whole lives are having trouble with it....meaning those who are actually over 30 and therefore that actually means something.

I have to second EdRedS's comment! I am a member of the over 30 group and I have driven many cars and trucks many years for many miles and my G took me a week to get the clutch release just right. If you trust anyone to drive your car, get their opinion. Remember, this is an Infiniti, like a Porsche: the dealer expects you to demand a higher level of service. So if you feel something is not right, drop by the dealer and have a chat!

i think you just need to get used to it. My wife grew up on cars with racing clutches and she even said the g35c clutch was tricky.

Well, I had trouble shifting into 5th three days ago, so I took it in. Now, I am out a car waiting as the dealer swaps out the whole tranny. I also posted this on freshalloy, but wanted to respond as you are having trouble with 2nd. Mine was not a jerky movement, but a grinding noise when shifting into 5th.

Yup, you just need to get used to it. I used to own a S2000 and found it to be a breeze shifting. I actually got to test drive a 6 spd this past weekend and actually stalled the car before even leaving the lot. The clutch is what got me at first....after a few minutes, it was comfortable.

 

Thanks for the help guys assurance that I am not just retarded at driving this car. I guess I gotta keep practining when i get home. I was at the philly auto show yesterday, and that had some nice cars. One car that was in my price range that I am mad about is the Lancer Evolution 7, that is coming out. thats one awesome car.

This is my 4th manual car and i have stalled it several times going into my garage (which is on a hill). Once after pulling it in i noticed a really strong smell of burnt clutch and i wasnt even giving it much power. I also noticed the smell backing it into a parking spot once. Has anyone else noticed this?

My first post (just stumbled on the site). Saw all the other comments and think that "getting used to it" has the most merit. While my coupe is a A/T, I am 30 and it's my first auto, so I have years of practice (in Dallas and Houston traffic nonetheless). I have had the luxury of driving an uncle's Porsche and Ferrari a couple of times, and I always had trouble adjusting to them at first. Ever thought it may just be that you aren't used to 270 lb/ft of torque? My last car was a '95 G20t and it had a great clutch and transimission, so I have a lot of confidence in Nissan's transmissions.
