Clutch Break-in?
Clutch Break-in?
I recently took my car in to the dealership because of a loose speaker wire. After testing out the wire, the tech tells me that my clutch is making a rattling noise and the clutch, flywheel, and other parts need to be replaced.
I had never noticed any clutch noise since it was my first manual car and my first g35.
Once everything was ordered, I took my car in and they said they would work on it all day and it would be done by the afternoon.
Apparently, it wasn't done because there was a problem with the clutch not popping out so they were going to order another part and have it back to me in a couple days.
I picked it up yesterday and they told me that since the clutch is new, there will be a break-in period and it would be at least a week until it is operating properly.
The clutch feels like -ish. It rattles like crazy when I go from stop to 1st. When I press down on the clutch, it does not pop out all the way and I have to pull it out with my foot.
Is this normal?

Doesn't sound normal! I hope they did it under warranty! Bring it back ASAP.
A new stock clutch should feel nice and easy and be super quiet! It should also grab fairly low to the floor.
When my G was new, the tranny was quiet as a mouse. At about 4-5K, I got the infamous rattle. Yadda yadda....at 11,500 the pressure plate and clutch was replaced....rattle was gone until 15-16K when it was back. at 17K change, the tranny and clutch was replaced. At about 20K I said FUG this stock crap and had a JWT clutch n flywheel installed by MRC since my dealer backed out of installing it when they were replacing the tranny. I haven't looked back since.
Needless to say, the stock tranny's clutches suck and yes I have driven stick for over 10 years. I got almost 130K out of the clutch on my previous truck. after the first clutch, I did teh proper break in and did not go over 3K for the first 500-700 miles and didn't start really getting into the upper rev band until after 1K.
