Pumpkin swap
I am thinking about buying a differential set from an 04 350z 6MT(Someone local selling) and putting it into my 04 g35 auto. Just wanted to know if this pumpkin would fit on my G and what difference should I expect going from 3.3 to 3.5
It'll swap right over. We've done a few diff swaps here, on cars that previously had an open diff, to get the vlsd and the ability to install the 3.91 gears (they're designed to bolt into the 6mt diffs).
The only downside we've found is that when going with the 3.91 gears, due to the change in wheel speed at a given RPM, the cruise control no longer functions properly (aka, doesn't activate). I don't know if the 3.3-3.5 ratio is close enough to where this won't happen as we've always dropped in the 3.91's at the same time. But everything else is fine, driveability, etc.. is greatly improved with the better gearing.

I just recently did the swap. You will find a small but noticeable improvement in accelleration going from 3.3 to 3.5. Don't expect to have your socks blown off, though.
As far as cruise, this is how it works: The ECM reads speed signals from the wheel speed sensors AND a transmission speed sensor. It compares these two signals, and if there is a difference of (I think) 7 mph, it will disable cruise. What this means is that I can use my cruise control until about 74 mph. If I go faster than that, the wheel speed will be faster than the transmission speed and the ECM will disable the cruise control. This occurs if you are using cruise at the time your car crosses that 7 mph difference or not. So if you get on the gas to, say, 80 or 90 mph getting onto the interstate, then slow back down to 70, you will not be able to turn on your cruise control. You will not be able to reactivate cruise until you turn the car off for 10 seconds then turn it back on. Also, if you have the cruise set just below the "threshold", and you go up a hill and the car accelerates, it can cause the cruise to deactivate as well.
Overall, I'm happy with my swap. I used to use the cruise religiously, but since I can't set it as high as I used to, I'm back to using just the pedal a lot more now.

Hey guys,
I'm thinking of getting a used '04 350z vLSD 3.3 for my '03 6MT coupe. I'm going built motor with Greddy 20G TT soon and heard this will help extend my gears out a bit. Is that pumpkin the right one for me? Meaning, will it accomplish that goal?
I do like my cruise control so given the 3.3 vLSD swap, would I have problems with mine?
Thanks!

Sorry to "use" your thread bro...
I'd like to extend out my gear so I stay in them longer. I was considering buying the Cusco Type RS 1.5/2-way limited-slip differential and putting it into a 2003 automatic 350z 3.3 pumpkin. Would this accomplish my goal?
Thanks!
