Maybe the different exhaust note is what you hear just before the stock crank is twisted into two ugly lumps...

Re: Got My Torque Converter ... and a New Problem...

gurgen, you will not have problems with the drivetrain, I was at around 370 torque at launch. I could launch the altima at ~2500 rpm stock. I was a 4 speed automatic so my gear ratios were higher (lower numerically), but my torque went to around 215 at 2500 rpms

tractiona is where the problem will lie. anything you can do to improve the traction. I dont think you will notice a big enough difference in handling going from 17 to a larger size to give up the benefits of sidewall flex on a launch. Currently I am researching a 15" rim to mount some drag tires on. More data on that when I figure it out.

6MT's do not see peak torque at launch, they have to feather the clutch or modulate the gas for the exact reason you state above. Too much torque. At around 600 ft/lbs on the launch you need to start worrying about snapping driveshafts (not immediately but with continued use)

Re: Got My Torque Converter ... and a New Problem...

3pt5se... thanks. Very well said! I will probably go withe 235x50's . Is there gonn abe tooo big of a bulb?

bullseye, I am not sure it is the exhaust note... it is definitely the intake!

Guys, as far as a dyno is concerned...remember, the greatest benefit of this mod is the power at launch (which is kind of where all the races begin . The dyno is an indication of a rolling start and should still improve because of thetightened clearances in the t/c. It is in NO way going to capture the immense torque that the car has at launch.

We'll know soon enough... Gettting the Dyno done on Friday!

Bu the car feels a lot snappier, i just know itis going to improve! I will also be doing the A/F indication on the dynoo to see if the mixtures were affected. If so, down Ito TechnoSquare I go as soon as I am back in L.A. (early december)! We will fine tune the adjustments then if necessary.

About the stoplamp fuse, it's the fuse that deactives the brake lights so when you brake your brake lights don't show. On your fuse panel cover it should indicate exactly which fuse this is. As for it working, I tried it and I did notice that the tires broke loose quicker than when I had the fuse in. You mentioned a vdc fuse you pulled and I haven't tried that yet- I usually just switch tcs off.

no the vdc definitely owrks. When I punched hte thing, it cam on, the SLIP light blinked, and the tires hesitated.

Try that, as I will try the stoplamo fuse (with new tires).

3point5SE_Auto ....

The 600lbs'ft of torque that you mentioned above, is that for an auto tuned tranny or a stickshift (I would think the former). What did you mean there?

Re: Got My Torque Converter ... and a New Problem...

which statement did you get that from?

We were talking about he ECU regressing if oyu brake torque, whether you do it on stock tranny or an upgraded one. The T/C has no electrical coonnections to anything, the ECU cannot sense that it was modified.

I am brainstorming the cause of my intake tone change. I think this maybe because there is more load on the engine, thus more power being transferred somehow. Will be talking to Danny at TechnoSquare to get to the bottom of this

So a tq converter will make your 60 faster. Will it also increase top speed?

Re: Got My Torque Converter ... and a New Problem...

Hey guys some very good news....

I did a quick-and-dirty G-tech run today. San Francisco sucks for things like this. I just moved here and this place has no straight hidden roads like so cal does for some nice 1/4mi runs. All I could do under reasonably controlled conditions, is a 0-60 run on the Great Hwy. Also keep in mind that I am doing this on a terrible set of Turanza stock all-season tires with about 3% thread on them!

With a very poor start (one wheel spinnning, etc.) my 0-60 time was 5.7sec !!!!. That's a 0.3 improvement over my absolute best time before the stock, which usually was 6.2 sec or so. So, to be fair, I, for all intents and purposes, have a 0.4sec improvement. The car pulls very strong because it is working much more on the upper band at times of hard acceleration. It is really perfect, almost magical: The more gas you apply, the greater the stall speed of the converter. So the more gas you apply, the more the engine is in that 4-7K band. It's just amazing! If you wanna drive granny style, it operated in the lower bands, for those very same speeds.

This is a perfect mod. Just wait until I slap on wide rims, 275 wide rear tires, and a Nsimo LSD. I am CONVINCED that low 5's are very easily achievable with the right tires. The AT coupe guys with the VLSDs (although they suck comapred to clutch type LSDs like Nismo and Kaaz), can really be rewarded!!!

And I still have stock exhaust/headers!!! Wait till that goes on my car!!!

No 1/4 mile runs, but I am sure they are in the 13's.

Well that is good to hear. What that time of 6.2 after the ecu upgrade or before?

Re: Got My Torque Converter ... and a New Problem...

Yeah the time after the edu upgrade was about 6.1 (6.0-6.2) depending on launch. Please keep in mind that I have terrible tires and could never do good breaktorqued launches, so the time is probabably closer to 6.1. However, the 1/4 mi is where the ecu really helped, as it works on the high end mostly (the knock sensor disallows much timing adjustments to be done at the low end). My 1/4 mile went from about 14.9-15.1 to ~14.1 (consistently)

I can only imaginewhat the 1.4 mi time is now. By the way, kind of OT, but I found out from Doug that the headers do NOT make the car appreciably louder then stock . So I will be putting those in!
