what's the diff between the VLSD on the 350z vs. the ones used on the 6mt G35's starting in '04?

I'm going to swap differentials also. There isn't any difference between the 3.5 vLSD diff, found on the 6MT Zs and a Gs. I saw a post on my350z where someone stated that he was able to swap an 06 3.5 vLSD pumpkin into his 03 G without any issues. No other parts were needed, just the pumpkin itself.

The differences between diffs usually come from comparing 5AT to 6MT. 5AT cars will have a 3.3 final drive whereas the 6MT cars will have 3.5 final drives. Also the base model of the Z as well as earlier 5AT Gs do not include the oem vLSD.

I believe the new 07 G sedans have a 3.7 final drive.

If you do not have vLSD currently on your car and are looking to swap in a diff with the OEM vLSD then you will need to get new axle stubs.

I can't imagine driving the G without VLSD. I can't keep traction as-is in 1st or 2nd. I even thought about changing to a 3.3 final drive to see if that would help.

I can honestly tell you, it sucks LOL. I don't really drag race anymore but on sharp corners I'll regularly spin my inner tire. I'm suprised you haven't made the switch to a 3.3, being that you had FI.

When I had my swap done at Z Car Garage, they mentioned that my 2005 3.3FD VLSD would only be compatible with a 2005+ 3.5FD VLSD, and that the ones from older years won't work correctly. I don't know if there is any truth to this, but my 3.5FD made me very happy and my OEM 3.3FD is currently on a car that may soon hit 700RWHP.

Definitely a great mod for the money. Just find somebody to swap with you and pay only for the labor...

If that goes both ways I may not be able to switch to a 3.3 with VLSD without adding it. Are there any 04' or older 3.3 VLDS's around?

There are a TON of people on my350z who will jump at the chance to trade you their 3.3 vlsd pumpkin for your 3.5 vlsd pumpkin.

Some do and some don't. I don't use mine much so it's not a big deal.

I have the nismo clutch type LSD and 3.5 FD and cruise control works fine. only issues with cruise control occur on early 03 models.
