Rear diff making noise....

We've had some chilly weather here in Houston the last few days, lows in the 20's and 30's.

I've noticed that the rear diff makes noise when accelerating when cold. Coasting is quiet.

The gears are factory issue and the oil has been changed twice in 32,000 miles with synthetic.

I'm not asking for a fix, just want to know if others experience the same in really cold weather.

I don't drive my G in the winter so I can't comment on any noises from the diff when cold. I do drive it in the late fall and experience the temps you mention but don't hear any rear end noise upon acceleration.

I would suggest many members here wouldn't say 20-30 degrees is really cold. Texas yes, elsewhere, no. In any event I hope you get some feedback to fill in some blanks for you.

BTW, I run 75W-90 synthetic.

What weight and type of oil did you use for the replacement? I have driven in colder weather than that and had no issues. I am still on the original oil since I have less than 6k miles.

bring it to ur dealer, and they'll replace the rear diff under warranty, as they are doing for me. we originally blamed the syncros in the tranny, but they did more testing with my ride with chassis ears, and pinpointed that same soudn to teh rear diff.
