Yes, I have the same issue. 5th gear can be quite difficult to get into. Brought it to the dealer and they couldn't mimic the issue as it was intermitent.

I didn't think you could bring in your car for grinding issues. Whenever I go into 5th gear it grinds. I think there was only one time where I didn't have it grind on me. So you guys think I can bring it to the dealer?

I would suggest taking it to the dealer. I've heard of something like this with older Toyotas. Apparently the 5th gear synchros are the first to let go after long term use, don't ask me why exactly. Be sure to check the fluid level in your tranny and change it out when recommended.

Just called up a recommended dealership...its not looking too optimistic. I probably will still bring the car in. How much do you guys expect a clutch replacement or transmission replacement cost?

There is a BIG problem with the synchros. Nissan has replaced 1,000's of tranny's because of this. I'm on #2. Make sure you get a replacement under warranty.

If you search around on here and on my350z you can find how many people have had this issue. Some guys are on their 4th or 5th tranny.

I'm pretty new to manual transmission cars. Can anyone provide a decent link to this issue so that I can read up. Thanks!

The best bet is to go over to my350z and search for synchro. There is a long, long thread over there.
