For 5A/T users who have rough shifts

Strongly recomend 5A/T users check your trans fluid level, don't trust the dealer.

Bought 2003 G35 A/T sedan in January, did transmission flush by the dealer in Feburary, found the shift was pretty rough sometimes and I was told it is the nature of the car. Just checked the trans fluid level and found is was 1 inch higher than the full mark. Drained out some and the car shifts a lot better.

I also found a few tiny bubbles on the dipstick when I checked the level. I am not sure whether it is caused by the overfill or it is normal. Anybody checks your fluid please let me know whether you see any tiny bubbles on the dipstick. Thanks a lot!!!

How did you check your fluid level? The 03 sedans don't come with tranny dipsticks.

If you don't have a dipstick you are SOL. The only real way to know is completely drain the fluid and refill. PITA.

Just went out to test the car again. The car hold gears longer than before and shift quality was a lot better than before. Love it more!

uhmm.... well thanks for the advice but my 03 G coupe comes with the transmission fluid setup completely locked... only the dealership has access to it... I took it to Mr. Lube and got all my fluids checked and refilled except the tranny fluid.... they told me they couldnt get to it, Infiniti locks it or something like that.....
and yes I'm experiencing some rough shifts when in tiptronic/sequential mode...
especially when it downshifts from 2nd to 1st gear it feels like the brakes were just slammed.... it jerks violently ... i have a service appointment at the dealership but I have warranty left on it so they should take care of it..

Not familiar with the coupe. The 2-1 shift in tiptronic is always rough, it is better after the trans fluid is corrected.

Shows how much some new car dealers know, or care!
