Pros/Cons of lightweight flywheel?

I have heard the pros of a lighter flywheel (rev up quicker) but have heard the downsides on a street car (harder to get the car rolling from a stop and high rev to start off, move rev matchind and clutch wear). Any feelings and feedback from some who HAS a lighter flywheel would be appreciated. thanks

i have the jim wolf clutch and flywheel and i have to say it is a huge improvement, now my stock clutch was pretty much at the rivets and it rattled really bad and the new one is lighter pedal feel, revs faster,a little harder to get the revs matched on shifting, but it engages at a different point, everytime i drive it i like it more and more.and my car doesnt sound like a gravel truck like some others say it will.It gives more driveline vibration but i would recommend it and for holding power its awesome,my friend has the jwt with a turbonetics kit and he loves his as well.good luck

someone once told me that shaving off 1 lb off the flywheel is almost the equivalent of shaving 50lbs off your car.

lol show me the math at showing the 50 lb. lighter per pound. It makes the car engine rev faster not drop weight. I'm just tryin to weight the bad with the good. High revs to get moving and harder to rev match on the street vs. faster rpm's.

I just did a ACT 6-puck clutch and a Fidanza flywheel setup on Saturday. I've only giving the car a few good pulls so far since. I honestly haven't noticed the car revving up faster...but I'm hoping because I haven't really ragged on it yet.

The chatter is nonexistent at idle...a little in the beginning of first gear at low rpms. The clutch engagement is difficult to get used to. But I did pull 1/2 car on my friend's JWT TT Z

Just to let you know, the lightweight flywheel helped totally kill my launch at the drag strip. One more thing to consider.

I said it before and I'll say it again.......... you have to re-learn the car again!!! It's like jumping into your buddy's car and trying to match rev's, take off (drag or street) like you car, it probably won't happen. I don't believe the streetability comes from the flywheel but by having too much clutch. Some guys buy too much where they either snap their neck or stall or both. Sure having a lightened flywheel contributes but is not the major factor. Can you learn it easy???? Yup!! Probably take you about a few days to get to know it again. Remember when you first got the G, well it'll probably be like that. If you can't............ than maybe you should have stuck to an auto.

thanks for the reviews guys, make me think twice about it. I was leaning away from a the lighter flywheel when i replace my clutch. Ill let the race cars keep em because they never roll from a stop...well leaing the pits i guess

Are finding it harder to keep from bogging when the DRs grab? From your recent videos, I could see a hint of bog as the car launched.

You can still "roll" w/ a lightened flywheel and clutch setup. But you have to give it a lil gas and you must pay attention. IMHO, the positives outweigh the negatives.
