Auto to Tiptronic on the fly?

so its been a few occasions now where i have my car in tiptronic and i either hit traffic, alot of lights, or something that makes me wish i was in auto. but dont want to come to a 100% stop to change it, so i just stay in tip the rest of the way home. so i was wondering, can i change from tip back to auto or vice versa while driving? id assume it would just stay in the same gear and switch over fine, but maybe im just a complete retard.

if its a stupid question, please refrain from flaming, and simply answer the question.

anytime is fine. i dont think infiniti would embed such a system where you must be in triptronic or d the entire time after start-up to turning it off.. plus i do it all the time!

It's not a stupid question especially if your car's not under warranty anymore. lol

But like everyone else said, I do it all the time. eg - I'll downshift when the car in front slows down and flip it back to auto when speeds pickup.

you are not messing with a gears at all when you do that.

It's all computer.

So you can switch back and forth as many times as you want.

Right. It's not a manual at all, but rather, just you telling the computer when to shift up or down instead of it doing it when it detects is an appropriate time. Your command an upshift or downshift is absolutely not any different than the normal automatic shifts, except that you are choosing the WHEN.

And for the record, what does Infiniti call this feature? Is it called Tiptronic or manual shift or sport mode or what? I know on the 07 Sedans they've started calling it "Drive Sport" / DS.

infiniti just calls it "manual shift mode" with downshift rev matching, and in manual mode, IF U don't shift it, it will go into rev limiter and kill the engine and sounds very nasty and looks pretty dumb too...
