Rear Diff Oil Change

Is there a specific mileage that a differential should be serviced? Or is it all based on how it looks?

no, there is no specific mileage that it should be changed but the first differential oil change should be done anywhere from 30-50k.

Do you have to use a special additive, or Nissan specific oil?

So there isn't a limited slip additive?

Nope. A lot of the fluid changes can be done by local shops (that you trust). I''ve gone to Valvoline with past cars and they have done excellent jobs. Just recently I had my diff fluid and tranny fluid changed by them and it only cost me 80.00. The stealership wanted to charge me almost 500.00 just to change the fluids.

Just changed mine not too long ago, with amsoil, did it right in front of my house.

I do, however, wanted to point out that the rear diff oil stinks! smells like some real potent wheel bearing grease.

Infiniti service recommendation is 48,000 km which is about 30,000 miles. i highly recommend changing the fluid well before this. I changed mine out at 5k miles and it was dark grey with a large glob of filings covering the magnet. Two subsequent changes have shown the fluid to be in great shape since the initial mess.

What about the gearbox?? I think that had to be Nissan specific fluid...

LOL...+1000 talk about the smell will wake you up. When mine was draining I was downstairs underneath with my friend who is a service tech there and you should have seen the looks on our faces!
