STICK GOT STUCK?

I got a new tranny put in today... great... excellent shifting now...no more 2nd gear spitting out into 1st anymore..

BUT... when i shift into 5th gear sometimes it won't let me in...but if i move it slightly to the left towards me, i find the opening... anyone know how to quick fix it?

Mine doesn't do that. But when my G was new, 5th gear was little tough (until about 500mi) . Give it some time. You should break in your new tranny. If it doesn't go away after 500-1000mi go back to the dealer.

Re: STICK GOT STUCK?

AIRWARRIOR, Take it back man. Mine did the SAME exact thing when they replaced the tranny. They tried to tell me I would just have to learn to shift slow and retarded so it wouldn't get stuck. I chose some other words that were not so nice.

Basically after sitting there playing with it I discovered that it would catch as I slid the shifter along the right edge of the shift gate. It was not a huge problem when I shifted very slowly but if I had to shift quickly it would jam every time. They gave me the run around sayin I was gonna have to deal with it until I almost got into an accident a couple days later.

I had to downshift quickly on the freeway to get out of someones way and when the shifter stuck I almost got hit. I blew my top and called the dealer and spoke with the Service manager I "informed" her that this was unsafe and they almost had a lawsuit on their hands. I told her that I was bringing the car back in and leaving it till it was fixed. They ended up calling a mobile engineer (whatever that means) to come look at this ultra complex problem with my new transmission.

It turns out that the idiots that built the tranny from the factory misaligned the shift plate (the metal piece that guides the shifter into gear). It was only misaligned be a few MM but it was enough to prevent the shifter from sliding along the shift guide. And of course the "Highly trained" technicians couldn't figure that part out either and had just ASSummed the tranny needed to be broken in. What crock, after that my view of infiniti quality and service was skewed quite a bit.

So it take it back to them and inform them that from the factory like all other G's you should be able to shift quickly into 5th without it sticking. If you have anymore questions PM me. Peace.

Re: STICK GOT STUCK?

Mine did the same exact thing both times i got my new tranny....Actually RedRock your dealer put the blame on the engineers who built the tranny instead of their own in-house techs..what they really did was put the guide plate on backwards causing you to have a dead spot where 5th and 6th gear would be..but if you move a bit to the left you can find both of those gears.....Trust me on the report that infiniti sends you a few weeks after your service I went off on them. I would have let it slide the first time but not the second!!

airwarrior

What do you mean by your 2nd spitting into 1st gear, are you talking about an AT shifter?

ALL OF YOU, HATS OFF, thanks.

Since i have the Rogue Short Shifter, when i put it in this thursday i will adjust the shift guide plate.

Hopefully that will fix it, otherwise i will flip out because i live almost 2 hours from the closest infiniti dealership...
