Shifter Vibration
Shifter Vibration
Hey guys,
I picked up an 03 G Coupe yesterday. It has a slight audible rattle/vibration coming out of the shifter under heavy acceleration. My friends 03 350z has this with his B&M Short shifter and the other G on the lot did this too.
I have searched and found some people with this problem as well but havent come across a solution yet. If someone knows a topic where an answer has been given already could somebody shoot me the link? I cant seem to find it.
If there isnt one, any guesses?
New forum member here as well. The coupe is perfect otherwise. No other rattles, windows fine, tranny engagement perfect.
Thanks in advance,

Lots of good reviews on the Rouge short shifter here with reports of less or no vibration after install, especcially compared with the B&M.
Try a search on Rouge SS.
BTW...welcome to Driver

hey thanks,
i actually came across info on that shifter, 20% throw etc. Im not sure if i want a short shifter in this car, unless it will cure the vibration of the stock one I have in the G.
Trying to keep this car nice and clean and stock.
My other car is a caged track only 04 sti.

Don't quote me on this, but think I read somewhere in here that the 05-06 and no doubt, 07 oem shifters were better than the 03-04's shifters in vibration.
Read that way back when I was researching here for a ss.
Your 03 bottom bushing could be worn as well as the cup
Maybe try a 05-07 oem shifter. Rouge, btw is the same in cabin height as the oem 05-06 sport shifters, but longer below the pivot ball.
20% is not that noticeable as others with 40% reduction are.
If this doesn't cure your vibration issues as you describe, only other thing I could think of is possible tranny and/or motor mounts loose or worn
Mine doesn't vibrate under acceleration, but does briefly when I'm decelerating in a rpm range and at about 40ish mph.
Hope I was of help.
G/L and congrats on getting your G.
-edit- Oops...forget about the 40ish mph thing. Its only under a certain rpm, forget in what range. Think around 3600-3700. I was rushing out to work. What can I say...
