Re: transmission fill

The answer is no. The tranny filler tube is located at the
back of the engine next to the firewall on the passenger side.
If you want to check the fluid level, Infiniti asks that you go to
your friendly dealership. It does not make sense, does it?

Re: transmission fill

I have an original release G35 Coupe, & it DOES have the tranny dip stick, as I have taken it out & seen it for myself. There has been discussion about this on the boards before, some cars seem to just have the cap & no stick. You do have to remove the plastic cover from the engine, then unscrew the cap, which is located at the rear, more towards the passenger side of the engine. The catch is the Type J fluid it uses is NOT standard & they do not want you going to Pep Boys, buying just ANY ATF & ruining the tranny, so they keep it WELL hidden. Apparently very few ATF fluids meet the Type J standard.

Re: transmission fill

I have a 2003.5 Sedan, and I also have the dipstick. Not easy to get to though.

Re: transmission fill

Yes, the dipstick is behind the motor on the passenger side. There is a screw on the side holding it in place.I flushed & replaced with synthetic Mobil AT fluid along with the diff fluid last week at 21000 miles

Re: transmission fill

Be careful with the AT fluids. Infiniti has grounds to non-warrant your Tranny if something goes wrong!

Re: transmission fill

American AT G35s (and 350Zs) with serial numbers up to 099999 don't have an AT dipstick. AT cars with serial numbers above 300001 should come with the "Gauge, Oil". I believe all the Canadian AT cars have an AT dipstick. The Canadian part number is 31086-CD100... it may now be the same number in the U.S.

Re: transmission fill

If you put in something other than the Nissan JMatic fluid, I think your
AT will be out of warranty and stands a good chance of failing! Let
us know how it works. I looked into putting synthetic AT fluid, but
Nissan/Infiniti say ours demands the J type, only from Nissan.

Re: transmission fill

Yes, be careful about this. I have also researched changing the fluids in the AT, as I tend to prefer high grade synthetics, however the Type J is supposed to be a special type of synthetic already. ANY other tranny fluid will automatically void the warranty, well stated by Infiniti, & can ruin the tranny. If you have a failure they will even send the fluid out to a lab to verify if it is their fluid or not, that is how serious they take the issue. Now I am not trying to say something else will not work, truth is, I do not know for sure. I have tried & tried to do research on the subject & seem to always come up empty handed. However, the one thing I DO know, is that if Infiniti has a tranny problem & they suspect something, they WILL test the fluid to see if it is theirs or not & if not, they will deny warranty coverage. Obviously they really do not care about motor oil, so for the moment, I have gone with the presumption that there must be something different about the type J fluid. Hell, they even went as far as to hide the filler tube so that service station guys would not top it off, & they even bolted it down.

I wish you luck.....

Re: transmission fill

Yes, that's exactly what I heard as well. They WILL do an analysis and even a miniscule amount of foreign fluid in the mix will void the warranty on the tranny.
