Tranny input shaft responsible for rattling noise in an '06 MT?
I bought my car about 2 weeks ago with 11k miles on it. Over the two weeks I put 600 miles on it and everything was working great. A few days ago I noticed a rattling noise coming from the engine. The rattling noise is rather inconsistent, but generally happens when I let off the throttle. After the engine warms up it pretty much goes away.
Anyway, I took the car to the dealership today and I was told this was completely normal, as the transmission input shaft was notorious for making noises. I'm a little suspicious about how "normal" this sound actually this, so I'm going to take a test drive with a technician tomorrow. What I'm wondering though, is this really a normal sound that I shouldn't be worried about, or is the dealership lying to me?
Update: Took the car to the dealership today and got an oil change. The sound went away so I guess the car was just starved for oil. Doing an oil consumption test to make sure my car doesn't eat oil like some of the other g35's on this board.
