Re: Quaife LSD

I thought only 6MT 04 sedans had the LSD. Wow. That's weird.

Re: Quaife LSD

Correct, concerning sedan's that is. Coupe's have alway's been avaliable with LSD with the performance tire and wheel package. Auto sedan's still do not have LSD, only the 04 6MT sedan has LSD.

All auto Z's have LSD, since their is no such thing a base auto Z.

Re: Quaife LSD

So what's the status on sending Quaife that stock LSD, have we got one to send?

Re: Quaife LSD

This is going to be the hard part.... actually getting spare diffs to send in. If we can't get one somehow maybe we should find out how much it would be to buy one and do a group chip in/donation. Just a thought. Don't know if there would even be enough people interested in a Quaife to do this.

Re: Quaife LSD

Cattman in Tucson, AZ stepped up to the plate and provided a differential to Quaife to pioneer the Cattman/Quaife ATB for the Nissan Maxima application a couple years back. For his effort, Quaife designated Cattman as the exclusive provider of Quaife ATBs for that application.

Perhaps the sponsors of this board could step up and make a similar arrangement with Quaife for the G35 application...?

Re: Quaife LSD

I did already set something up with a 350Z owner when I was going to do the vlsd upgrade (before I knew Quaife would do this). I could just buy his vlsd unit for like $100 or less (it is used ~2K miles) and send it to Quaife. But the 350Z owner also said it'll be about another month before his diff upgrade is performed, so we'd have to wait.

Re: Quaife LSD

The stability control system does incorporate a feature called Brake LSD, where it fakes a mechanical LSD by breaking the slipping wheel to force power to the other side.

At my last autocross it was raining. I had VDC off, but the Brake LSD is the piece of it that you can't disable. I hit the gas off the line a little hard the first time and it sent both wheels spinning. I also noticed the SLIP light on the dash blinking. My car is an '03, from the era where even the 6MT's don't have an LSD. (Mine is an auto.)

Andyrnack:

That's awesome. For $100 I'm sure we could find enough people to chip in. Keep us informed. Just one question, the vlsd from the 350z is the same as the one from the sedan 6mt correct? Just making sure. Anyways thanks for the heads up.

Re: Quaife LSD

As Gsedan35 will say, the master of this topic in my opinion, the 350z VLSD core is the same as the infiniti's. However, to fit the core into a non-lsd sedan (or non-lsd 350z), you will need some additional equipment meant for an lsd: axle stubs, bearings, and oil seals (total cost new is $400).

Since Quaife will in all likelyhood produce only the "core", we will still have to buy these $400 in extra parts. So overall, this upgrade may cost $1500 (Quaife) + $400 (Nissan parts) + $400 (install) = $2300. This is basically $1000 more than a nismo lsd purchase and install. But considering the Quaife would be silent under normal street driving, but is still aggressive enough for autocrossing, it would be worth it to me.

One last bit of info: my dealer quoted me at $1600 for the new vlsd core w/ extra lsd parts, and $400 for the install.

Re: Quaife LSD

Like an earlier post mentioned, Gsedan35 talked with a guy at Quaife and they will need a LSD core for prototyping...

I actually started the thread and got the initial interest from Quaife going, but I'm on hold waiting for Gsedan35 to talk with his contacts on getting us a LSD core to send in. The $100 350z LSD core sounds like a great next option though, I'll certainly pitch in!

Re: Quaife LSD

andyranck: Correct... for people such as yourself and Gsedan35 who have the 2003 6MT without the stock VLSD you guys would have to buy all the extra nissan parts in order to make the Quaife or any other LSD work. But for the 04's such as myself who allready have the stock VLSD we would only have to get a core Quaife and no other extra parts, correct me if I'm wrong.
