problem with my Automatic Transmission

First of all I want to apologize if there's already a thread about this that I might have overlooked while I was searching through the forum. But also, I really needed an immidiate answer. So I thank any of you in advance for any replies or direction to any previous thread related to this matter.

I've just purchased about a month and half ago 2003 model with 5AT. It had about 76k miles on it (something that I could afford) . A week after I've purchased it, I started having problems. The first time I realize it was when I was on the freeway doing about 55mph and needed to go faster so I gave it some gas and notice that the car is not accelerating eventhough the rev keeps going up to 5k. So I laid off on the gas completely and staring giving it some gas again and the problem disappered.

About a few days later, the problem started again on the the freeway but this time it was worse and laying of the gas pedal and pressing it again didn't help and as I pressed harder, the immidiate maintenance required notification came up on my Nav screen as well as check engine light on my console. So I took it to the dealer and they said it was just sensor problem and they cleared it. But as I was coming back from the dealer I noticed that problem is still there. The dealer had to replace the tranmission with a new one (so they said).

The car has been fine with the new tranny for about a little bit over a month now, and yesterday when I was on my roadtrip, the problem started again after being driving for about 200 miles. I looked in the owners manual to see if its some quick fix since no check engine light came up or anything. I found something about "fail safe" mode thought it was the issue because according to the manual, it occurs after "burnouts" or subsequent hard-braking. I did not perform any "burnouts" but I had to break real hard because I was about to miss a turn and that's when the problem started again. I tried to clear it from "fail safe" mode as instructed in the manual and it seem to had help but the problem resumed after being driven for about 20 miles.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced the same kind of problem and if so, any solutions or if there's any factory recalls.

P.S. sorry about the long message, but I wanted to draw a complete picture of my situation. THANKS AGAIN FOR ANY HELP!!!!

Not sure what the dealership really did but it looks like your clutchpacks are on there way out, you need to take it back and have them look at it again.

+1 - Take it back to the dealership. They may not have matched the VB to the new transmission properly. When my VB was screwed up, my car went into fail-safe mode quite easily. To exit fail-safe, just turn the car off (while in park of course) and re-start it. Since this is happening consistently, something needs to be fixed - it will not just go away. Since the dealer replaced the transmission, they should be responsible for making it work properly.

I don't understand why the dealership was so good to you replacing a transmission after the Nissan warranty expired after 70k?

Was this a week after you purchased from them.....their goodwill?

He purchased it used and a week later it goes bad so I am assuming he bought an extended warranty or one of those warranties the dealerships offer you when you purchase a used vehicle.

I bought a used SUV and purchased a warranty from the time I had it till 5 years or 89,000 miles.

I did a huge burnout when I changed from the 2.8 to the 3.3 diff. The VDC/SLIP/ABS lights came on. Returned to normal a bit later.
