Was driving back from CT, and got stranded for a while.



Pedal sucked down to the floor, hard. Clutch fluid resivoir was oddly very very low. I could pull the pedal back up (using a lot of effort) and it would snap back up hard.

At first I though some air had got into the lines, but then I saw a pool of clutch fluid on the ground. Pumped the pedal (best I could) no effect.

At this point, my best guess is the seal on the slave cylinder blew.

Oh, and Infiniti road side assistance was USELESS Ended up using my friends AAA.

Is this covered by the powertrain warranty?

sorry to see what happened. i had my car towed this passed year as well... and it was a royal pita. my car just wouldn't start... just kept turning over and over. had to wait an hour for my tow... and then all the dealer bs. basically half my day wasted (and 1 days pay wasted from work).

definitely sounds like it's a warranty problem. but i wouldn't put it passed a stealership to blame it on u. stay on top of it and i hope it all works out in your favor.

My clutch pedal was pretty hard to press in.....frankly everything in that thread sounds exactly like my experience. I hope Infiniti does me right!

I had never heard of that pivot pin breaking. It might be a good idea to spend the $7 and replace it at each clutch change.

No call yet, waiting until after lunch to call.

I'm out of my normal warranty, but I still have my powertrain warranty.

Only exception is your slave sounds like it blew with it's fluid leaking all over.
Hope Infiniti takes good care of you on repair like my friend.
btw, his is a 04.

It scared me to see him in my rear view along with my other friend behind me in his M3 while we all making pass over broken yellow with oncoming in the distance,
then after we completed pass and oncoming went by very soon afterwards, he was gone
It was the other guy behind me that gave him a ride home after we both eventually flipped a 180 and found him along side of road.
Thank God it wasn't what I originally thought happened. I was shaking until I saw him on side of road.
He down shifted ready for pass and then pivot bolt snapped right in the middle of passing while upshifting.
If it weren't for my friend or me, who knows when he would've got home b/c of that Infiniti tow service.

Just talked to the dealer.

dealer: "We will probably be able to take a look by the end of the day."
me: "Probably?"
dealer: "Yeah"

Clutch fork snapped

I was quoted "worst case scenario" of $2100+. I authorized them to take it apart and find out what else went bad.

Can anyone ease my mind about this. Does the powertrain warranty cover me? This has to be a manufacturing defect, right?

Gah, this stinks

same thing happened to me and this is rather common, well not common, but it's becoming common. 90% of the time, it's the pivot bolt that acts as the folcrum to the shift fork. It's a <$20 bolts from the dealer. Sucky part is that, it's inside the tranny and you have to drop it in order to replace it. To see if this is the problem, simply inspect the shift fork that sticks out of the tranny right where the slave cylinder is, if that wiggles freely, than the pivot bolt(ball-head) broke. All it should cost you is the simple labor to drop the tranny and replace the bolt and some new fluid.

If you're lucky, it's just the slave or master cylinder that's broken leaking fluid. But if it's the pivot ball is broken, there's nothing to push on the slave cylinder, so it's fully extended..ei leaks, so clutch pedal kisses the floor. goodluck

So, sounds like I will prob be stuck with a labor bill and a $12 part? Maybe 2 2 hour job?
