Shift Issues

Gents,

Recent '04 Sedan owner, rwd, automatic, 32K miles..

On Christmas eve had my car valeted and went I came out, issues:

Essentially, The shifter is stuck over in the manual shift mode and won't slide back over to the left into drive, so I'm unable to put the car in park, unable to drive it because it won't engage into 1st out of the manual shift mode, and can't pull the keys out.

I had Infiniti tow it to the dealership and will say that their roadside assistance program was phenomenal with a tow truck showing up within 25 minutes of call completion on Christmas Eve!

Thoughts? Anyone have a similar experience? Is this usual/unusual? I was toptally deflated as I just picked up the car Thursday night...

sounds to me like the valet service had some fun joyriding with your car...its really not necessary for the valet people to need to use manual mode to park your car 100 or so feet.. Did you bring this up to the valet's attention when you got into your car and it was stuck over in manual mode?

On the other hand your warranty should cover it and you should be free of paying anything, but still i would have been flippin pissed.

I was totally pissed and brought that very point up...to which they replied that they couldn't get it out of drive and only popped it over to see if they could then pop it back and up into Park....Eitherways, completely makes me re-think valeting my car....I'm just hoping for nothing major at this point and just want my car back...It's been hell sitting around over Christmas pondering its fate...

I'm going to move this over to the engine/drivetrain section, you will get more info over there.

Its not the valet. Its just something that happens. A glitch. it happened to my friend. Very rare. It shifts over but won't shift back because one of the links didn't move with the shifter not allowing it to reposition itself. I took my friends console apart and discovered there. Couldn't figure out a way to do it myself so he got it towed to the dealership. Dealership should fix it under warranty.

install a clutch, it might be easier to get it out of a "gear".

Long Story Short - Dumbass valet kid either thre it into manual mode too quickly or too harshly or shifted straight from park-to-drive and into manual mode without ever giving the car a chance to get into drive/1st...

End of Story: Sewell Infiniti fixed it in about 3 hours and did a 128 (or something) point inspection, which came back good...

Moral: Roadside Service is totally worth it and they were outstanding and Sewell Infiniti in Dallas are a super bunch of guys, just make sure you're with your car when you get it towed...(They misplaced it for most of this morning)

Total Cost: $0 including inspection, towing & storage over the holidays

Sorry for venting and thanks for the help gents!
