Who here doesn't have tranny problems, but

It's still hard to shift in the morning and occasionally get a grind when its cold? Mine does this every morning when its cold, 1-2 gear. Once I drive a few miles, its silk in all the gears. I just curious to who else has this issue really. I really don't want to take mine in yet because I have read on the 350z it seems to be a common issue and not really a fix. Even the new ones show it.

It is typical of many (if not all) manual trans vehicles to have "stiff" shifting when it is cold, especially very cold in the winter. Like you said, it will warm up and shift smoothly as the tranny fluid warms up.

I've owned 9 different cars with manual trans and they all were a bit stiff to shift on a cold winter morning.

You can look into a different, but compatible, manual trans fluid to use if the stiffness really bothers you. Usually, synthetics can help out in this area.

However, Infiniti does not recommend any other transmission fluid.

My tranny has the same pattern of stiffness and grinding 1-2 until fully warmed. The stiffness is normal, grinding is not. Took it in for service, found the fluid level too low, replaced fluid, but it didn't help. Returned car for service, they are now replacing the transmission.

Knock on wood, but I have absolutely no problems with my 6MT - a bit stiff on a cold morning, but no worse than any other MT I've ever owned. No grinding... well only when I blow a shift... it's happened a time or three....

Re: Who here doesn't have tranny problems, but

My tran was grinding in 3rd gear consistently. When I took it into the dealer they had to swap the whole tran out for a brand new one. Now 4K miles later, I'm having similar problems plus some new ones. 2-4 grinds sometimes and 5th gear has moved. I can shift into 5th, but it's in between 3rd and where 5th used to be. I went for a ride with the shop foreman and he said I'll probably need another tran.
