Will a 2005 transmission work in a 2003?

Whats going on guys? Does anyone know if a transmission from a 2005 will work in a 2003? I know they added rev matching to one of the newer years, but not sure exactly what year...let me know.

+1 i want to know this too

...i'm thinking it'll bolt right up with no problems, but maybe some electronic issues, such as VDC, ABS, maybe even the speed sensors? That's just my wild guess.

You guys have different transmission types listed in your sigs.

For 6mt, should be an easy swap.

For 5AT, I think the newer years have the TCU somewhere in the transmission unit. Not 100% sure, but I remember that there's some changes, and I'm inclined to say that you can't do a straight swap.

SEACRH MAN, come on! haha just kidding. I cannot find the answer either. I would also like to know. Maybe put a pm into jason a riverside. But only sean because I don't think jason would appreciate 5 of the same questions. If you get the answer post up here. I really was kidding about the search, I know you search and get tired of people posting the same 5 questions, just like me

Won't work. You need the tranny and the tranny TCM and I highly doubt the 2003 engine ECU harness to TCM match that of the 05+ TCM.

I was unaware that the 03-04 transmissions were different...what do you mean "rev limit"? I know the rev limiter on the 03's and 04's are the same.

What do you mean the 04 bounces off the rev limiter and wont let you shift? The 03 bounces off the rev limiter as well, but when it bounces it goes below 6700RPMs and then shifts. Do you mean the 04 wont shift unless you let off the gas? Sounds ECU related...

You don't have to let off the gas to shift at all.

You saying that bounces [once?] then goes below 6700 and shifts for you maybe the same thing I'm trying to describe. Even if the '03 does just bounce for a second before it shifts the later year models will let you bounce off the rev limit all day in any gear.
No i don't think this is right. My 03 will continue to bounce off of every gear until you physically shift it. It won't just hold the shifts to redline and then shift for you. Im pretty sure the 03 and 04 transmissions were the same. I know some people had problems with the 03 transmissions and the valve bodies were "screwing up" and would allow you to choose which gear you could launch from. Someone i knew could be at a stand still and shift into 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th gear using the tiptronic and then go from a stand still like that.

Depends where your TCM is located. Early autos had them inside the cabin. Later models had them inside the tranny. So phyically it should bolt up. Wiring the damn thing might be a problem
