Question for people driving manual G

Hi:

My G sometimes when the car is moving, I am trying to shift back to first gear. It's a little hard to shift in. It feels like it's locking me out. I have to give a little more energy. I try to shift when car is parked at the side, it's lot easier to shift in. Is it just how the G is? I heard the gear will lock you out if the speed of the car is too fast for that gear, is that true? Also when you releasing the clutch, will you hear a click sound?

if you absolutely need to downshift to 1st gear without coming to a stop and it doesn't want to, try double clutching.

it does lock you out if your going way to fast(most cars do that). You should not be shifting into 1st unless you are at a stop. If you are downshifting into 1st, at too high speeds than that is why you are grinding. And if that is the case please find someone to teach you to drive your car before you rip the transmission out

i can still remember my dad telling me 'stop dont shift into 1st.' 'thats it thats the last time.' over and over again. not good for the car just wait until you are at a stop otherwise you should be fine in 2nd gear hope this helps

Most cars will lock you out. Just shift into 2nd and go from there. If you're moving at all (even at a snail's pace), 2nd gear will not be a problem.

The car has to be pretty much stopped to go into first. It's such a low gear anyway, the chance of overreving is high if you shift while moving.

If you're in 5th (for example) and you're about to stop, and just push the clutch in and shift to neutral, then try 1st, yes, it will be quite difficult sometimes. A good way to eliminate this is to instead push the clutch in, 5-4, 4-3, 3-2, and finally 2-1 as you're decelerating. You can leave the clutch depressed the entire time if you like.

Hitting every gear as you go down will almost ensure an easy 1st gear selection.

you don't need first gear unless you're trying to start from a stop

the more you try to downshift into it the more you're damaging the gate

Dont give it more energy. You should never shift into 1st unless your at a stop. Your gonna ruin your tranny if you force it to go in. If you must go to 1st try to rev match and slip it into 1st. and the clicking sound is you grinding your gear. You might wanna stop doing that as well...
