Missing gear and redlining?

Ok I feel like such a n00b! For some reason I have missed 2 or 3rd gear when doing spirited driving putting the car in redline. I never did this on other cars, and even own a 1990 300ZX TT and never did that in it. The gears are a little peculiar, I just need to be more careful.

Anyway I did that last night and when I came home I could smell burning metal from the engine. I was in 1st and went to go into 2nd and missed the gear throwing myself in very high RPMs. Maybe upto 7,000 not really sure. I let off and regained control and drove home. Car is fine just worried if this could cause damage.

Last time this happened trying to go into 3rd. I think I am shifting too quick... Ugh.....

7000RPM is fine for your car.

Try missing going from 3-4 and hitting 2 at VIR at 90MPH

the throw is a little long and the gates are a bit tricky. i think everyone has done this at least once or twice while driving hard.

don't worry about the engine. the car has a gas cutoff at redline and you didn't do any damage. most problems with occur with sustained driving in high revs.

You could bounce it off the rev limiter multiple times with no consequences.
Nissan put in the Rev Limiter to save engines from over speeding, and they also but the rev limited at the RPM they did because its still "safe"

Your good
