4.083 Gears/Final Drive

Hey guys, I was checking out this thread on My350Z.com and came across this

http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301451

I was wondering if anyone else has tried this any have any experience with it?

It seems like a very worthwhile modification for 6MT users.

Just remember highway fuel consumption is directly related to engine rpm. Not a 100% correlation but greater than 75%.
15% more rpms will decrease MPG by 11-12% especially as you exceed 60 mph [sweet spot for optimzation].

Whether a diff change is worth the $250-$400 in annual fuel cost is up to owner?

Yeah, honestly -- I am not worried THAT much about the fuel costs.

Looks like an worthwhile mod.

You loose cruise control only if you're automatic.

the 4.08's along with a cusco LSD are by far the best mods i've done yet...totally changes how the car feels. at 80mph, you will be at about 3500 RPM (which is where you would be if you were doing about 90mph).

just remember to take it to a place who knows what they are doing. they have to get the shims right to ensure that the ring and pinion engage properly, and they have to have the right equipment to be able to measure the correct preload on the thrust washer.

imagine a 15% horsepower increase throughout the powerband...that's what it feels like (because the gears are 15% shorter). because the final drive is shorter, it affects all gears on the tranny.
