Yea, $3000 is nutz! I got a new JWT lightweight clutch/flywheel, had it installed, and the pivot bolt for like $1700-1800. I would definately order the parts urself and have a trusted shop do it. Just say no to Stealership pricing....

Geez you people are crazy for paying over a thousand for this stuff. Steel pivotball is $40. If you ever drop your transmission you might as well change out everything while it's down to save you time and money. All you have to do is take off the drive shaft and exhaust and then the starter. Then disconnect the wiring harness to the transmission and O2 sensors and take off the slave cylinder. Then take out the housing bolts on the transmission and then take off the transmission mount. You then slide the transmission out either with a transmission jack or bench press it and slide it out depending on if your using a lift or jackstands. Once it's out change out the pivotball and throwout bearing. Then take off the pressure plate, clutch, and flywheel if your changing those out and once those are off take out the pilot bearing. While your doing all this you can easily change out the clutch line to a stainless steel clutch line, get a new slave cylinder and master cylinder and swap them out. Then you just throw them all back on there with the right torque where necessary and it's done. You can get it all done in and out within 10 hours if your alone or haven't done it before. I would never pay anyone to do this stuff. It may sound long and complicated but it's very simple. It's easier to do than a front wheel drive transmission. Although the FWD transmission is lighter. The only expensive parts are the clutch kit. And most of them come with a new throwout bearing and pilot bearing already. Dont' have someone do it for hundreds or thousands of dollars....it's rediculous.

:) 300zx pivot ball DOES WORK on 04 g35 coupe

came accross this thread and thought some info may help.

I myself have gone through 2 pivot ***** and the second time i found out that a pivot ball from a 96' 300zx TT tranny fits in 04 coupe (Had extra Trannys laying around and saw it was an identical match!) . SOooo if looking for one and you have no luck you always can throw in one from a 300zx

and FYI: the second time it was replaced all i had to do was loosen the tranny bolts and slide it back about 2 inches to give enough room to install... it was a BiTC$ to maneuver tools BUT it worked and is secure. if time wasn't an issue the tranny would've been pulled and done properly but that wasn't an option.

Tested and proven. mine has been in for 30,000 miles working with a ACT HD plate and 6 puck sprung disk now a still going.

Save your money and good luck.

My shift fork broke last sunday. I think I am on my OEM clutch at 109k. Thanks to family I got a free tow and all labor costs are free!! I'm replacing the clutch as well cause he said it was time. So I hope to have it back soon.

My pivot ball just went last week. I paid $1150 for an oem clutch and labor by my trusted independent mechanic. I supplied a new nismo flywheel for an extra $520. After 250 miles I am loving this setup!! The $12 cost of the pivot ball made me laugh...NOTE: if your clutch goes out you can shove it into first and limp home...then shove it in again the next day and drive to the mechanic...

Winter Devil, the clutch man!
Is there a place that sells ALL the stuff you refer to? When i do my clutch i want to replace it all but as im in Australia i dont want to pay for 5 different postages. Any help in getting it from 1 place? Looking for a clutch to handle 400/400 wrhp/torque Thanks

I was quoted a lot more for the clutch through the dealer because of the dual-mass flywheel and claim that it could never be resurfaced ($1100). The clutch was essentially Nissan Value-Line which I feel is under-spec for this car, I said thanks but no thanks.

$400 was to pull the trans back out and replace the bolt. I did not have to have any threads chased or fork replaced, just that bolt. Their shop rate was closer to $90/hour.

Now at 70k, the JWT clutch has already passed the OEM by 10k miles (OEM - 30k, JWT, 40K) and aside from chatter at idle, the super lightweight flywheel has been the best upgrade to the car aside from the tuning and breathing mods, totally changed the nature of the motor.

I may have mentioned this before but I find it a little suspicious that you can get a NISMO hardened bolt like this pivot bolt for S13, S14, R32, etc. Tells me they know it's weak for hard use.
