Downshifting / Engine Braking?

I took my new G35 (3800 miles) auto xmission on a trip to the mountains. I was startled when the car downshifted dramatically while going downhill and around curves. This happened frequently and was not a smooth transition. Is this normal, and if so, would someone explain. I can't find anything in the owners manual about this. Thanks.

Its an electronically contrlled transmission so its adjusting to how you are driving based on the response of the electronic throttle input, and multiple other inputs that are inputed into the ecu. Sounds normal to me

It's normal. The ECU is smart enough to understand the driving situation and give you the most control possible when going down mountain passes and curves.
