I just changed the oil on my 2008 G35X for the first time, with M1 5w-30, at 2357 miles.

So, after I finished, I looked at the rear differential to see how hard it will be to change the gear oil. From what I can tell and watching a DIY of a 1st gen G35, it looks pretty easy.

I looked for the front differential and didn't see it. I didn't remove the undertray. So am I correct to say I need to remove the entire undertray to get to the front differential? Also, is it difficult to get to the fill and drain holes?

I built my own ramps and have a 6 inch lift. I imagine I can get another 1.5 inches, maybe 3 inches at the absolute most. So, I'm also wondering if people think that is sufficient clearance to do the job?

Yes, entire undertray has to be removed.

The drain and refill plugs aren't hard to get to at all, but you will need the proper tool to remove them. Here's what you'll see when you're looking at the front diff: (minus the missing drain plug of course)

< Just to the left of the oil filter > White arrow is the refill plug and the red arrow is the drain plug.



I don't personally know if your ramps would allow enough clearance to get underneath the car... I've always used jacks and jackstands. If you used the ramps when you changed your oil, then yes... it is enough room. Hope that helps.
