VLSD

I was wondering if anyone has installed the 350Z VLSD in their 6MT sedan yet. If so where did you get it and how do you like it. Or for that matter any aftermarket LSD. I have heard that the NISMO LSD is too much as far as hooking up the back tires. I have heard that the 350Z VLSD is a little less intrusive.

Thanks.

Re: VLSD

I thought that the LSD in the 350z was the same as the one in the G35 coupe and the same as the one in the 2004 6mt sedan.

Re: VLSD

A quick peek at 6speedg35sedan's profile reveals he's got a LSD-less 2003 6mt sedan.

Re: VLSD

You are all correct. I have a 2003.5 which didn't come with the LSD. I would like to know how the LSD works either on the coupe, 6MT sedan or the 350Z. And is it possible to install the LSD aftermarket from Nissan or Infiniti and what is the cost? Has anyone seen a LSD for the sedan for sale that maybe someone got an aftermarlet and replaced the stock LSD?

Re: VLSD

I did the swap and I feel very strongly that it was a huge mistake. It is a system that is supposed to please if you track or auto-X. But when I drive aggressively on the street, it's limitations come front and center in a big hurry. It is not as effective as Nissan would like you to believe. It function's by allowing "some" slip in order to lock up the viscous goo and limit slip. Problem is, it allow's way to much slip, some slip isn't the word for it. I spent, $900 on the swap and in cost to benefit terms, no other mod I have ever done to any car has let me down like this one has. I would have much rather put up with a mechanically loud Nismo clutch type then to throw $900 down the drain again. Cusco does make a clutch type LSD that is designed specifically to help quell the low speed tight corner noise issue.

Here's a price break down of the costs.

Vicscous core $100! (only 15miles tops too)
LSD bearings and seal's $100
LSD stub axel's $300
Install and adjust $400

The Nismo LSD come's with the bearings and stub axle's in it's purchase price. All other LSD brands, do not come with those parts and you'd have to add them at extra cost.

Their is a sedan owner here and on MY350z.com that has the Kazz LSD on his sedan.

My comment's on VLSD are not ment to disrespect anyone in anyway. Simply put, VLSD system's have known limitations, I happen to find them all to quickly and easily and this give me reason to say it was $900 wasted on my car that should have went to something else.

Re: VLSD

After a long long long time of PM's to this 350Z guy...

A VLSD is on it's way to Quaife via priority mail. If you're thinking about upgrading to a vlsd, wait until we get quoted on the price.

What does this guy think of the Kazz unit. I spoke to Stillen and this is the unit that they suggested that I get. It is a 2 way system. They seemed to think it would work best for AutoX and such. Stillen said that the Nissan VLSD is very limited to what it can do. They said that would be their last choice.
