6MT clutch.....?
6MT clutch.....?
So I have an '05 6MT with 61,000 miles on it now. I think I'm going to need to do the clutch pretty soon. What should I expect to pay from a stealership and/or reputable shop? How hard is this job to do? I have some skills but, I'm not sure how hard this clutch is to do?
I've been having some intermitent trouble with the clutch pedal sticking about half way down. The clutch still works but you have to pull the pedal back up with your foot. My wife said she smoked the clutch the other day too....go figure

if the dealer tells you that the sticking clutch is because you need a new clutch tell them you wont accept that as an answer. have them adjust the rod and you will get a much better pedal feel and wont have the problem with the sticking... (i was getting soooooo annoyed with this until i finally found the fix)
second, i dont know your driving style but it may not be a bad idea to go aftermarket considering you burned threw yours in 60 some odd k.
i recently (600 miles ago) put in a exedy stage 2 ceramic 3 puck clutch kit w/ their leightweight flywheel check it out at http://www.exedyusa.com . man i love it. got a little getting used to on take off with the super quick engament, but the thing GRABS HARD. the total cost including the 4.5 hrs labor they charged me came out to about $2500 or so. chirping 2-3 shifts w/ brand new 275 neo gen tires.
the flywheel will chatter some when on an incline in nutral with the clutch pedal released but i think it is worth it.
let me know if you ahve any other questions

I had the same exact problem, tell the service advisor to shove it, its a clutch slave cylinder problem, you need it replaced. After they replaced mine, never had a problem with the pedal sticking half way down.
I seem to remember hearing about people replacing their manual transmission fluid and resolving the clutch pedal sticking problem... I could be wrong - do a boolean search about this and you'll be sure to find the resolution
Damn 2500$+ , me and my buddy did his clutch with flywheel and pressure plate, took us 6 hours and runs good, grips hard like stuiees says
spent 30bucks for energy drinks and donuts to get the job done

Nice work on the DIY what clutch kit flywheel you go with? The 2500 covered all parts and labor. The exedy kit come with EVERYTHING inc preesure plate, throwout bearing, etc.

i heard the nismo clutch cost a little less than the stock... anyone with experience yet... i ahvent called infiniti but what the preice for the stock and the nismo... with flywheel...
we used a nismo clutch system, works awesome , its a step up from the stock so nothing to hardcore.
The only thing that didnt come with it was the alignment bar and throwout bearing, but that was an extra 50 or so bucks , but everything else was there

hey man, i just wanna help u out here so u dont spend money on crap u dont need.....wat u described there IS NOT A CLUTCH PROBLEM...
when a clutch gose out, everytime u shift and let go of clutch and press on the gas pedal the car will throw high rpm's with little to almost none of movement then will grip and ur car will start accelerating....most common on 1-3gears....
im not sure whats going on with ur clutch, but someone eles might know whats going on the forums and might help u out, so dont rush buying a clutch right now

my Audi A4 did exactly that, clutch pedal would not spring back up. it was intermittent, sometimes it would just stick to the floor and it was the clutch slave cylinder at fault, so make Infiniti fix it instead of charging you $$$ for a clutch job.

i just recently had that problem... the clutch when you press at about half way i feel the pressure. but top half to use my toe to lift it... according to infiniti riverside it a common problem when temps reach over 92 degrees. they make it sound like that i was overheating my clutch... i dont drive my 05 6mt hard, when that happened it was a hot day... i wish infiniti had a soulution to that to normal day driving on a hot day... sounds like a design flaw...
Ya this is my wifes car. She said it smoked once but I'm not sure why it did it. This problem is very intermittent but I know clutches don't last forever ( especially when the wife is smoking it) It sounds like a slave problem. Oh and I know what a slipping clutch feels like. I've baked a couple clutches in my day
Where do I get ahold of a nismo clutch?

Wow no one read my post? Anyone whose clutch pedal comes up halfway, go to the dealership and tell them to replace the "clutch slave cylinder." If your under warranty better do it now. If the service advisor says its fine and there is no problem with the clutch, tell him that you'll file a complaint to infiniti consumer affairs (threaten them), this is a common flaw among the 6mt cars, especially the 05's.
