Hearing the gears shift..

Is anyone experiencing this: if I lower my windows and drive, when I shift, I can hear my car shifting into gear outside of it. Like a clunk everytime I shift. Is this normal? I dont here this with other standard cars....Is this an indication that my clutch is going?

Hey!

I was just about to post the same thread. I got my G35 2 weeks ago, it is 2007 6MT. I noticed the same thing. When my windows are down and i put into the 1st gear i hear it and then second same thing, then i dont hear nothing. Performance wise i don't see or feel anything wrong with it. I didn't have a chance to ask dealer yet, but i will. I was hoping other owners of manual coupe could let us know if it is something normal or not.

Also, when i start the car and then release the clutch (while in neutral) i hear this clunk noise also. But after that if i press the clutch and release no more noise. Unless i go into the 1st gear then i hear it and same with second then i guess it gets louder and I cant hear anything. Gears change smoothly and without any problem, just that noise concerns me.

Any suggestions???

It almost seems as if the transmission lost its cover and now u can hear the gears switch. (i am not suggesting that it is the cause, it just sounds like it)

I can leave with it as long as i know it is normal.

I can hear the shifting in every gear, if I'm at a stop.

It's just the tranny going into gear when you shift.

Try it with the showroom car next time you go for service.

I'm talking when the cars moving, not while at a standstill. I do understand that noise is normal when not moving.

it's still normal, it's just two pieces of metal coming together at high speeds

It is normal at any speed. The gears have to mate to deliver power. You just don't hear it at speed because the 'clicking' noise is overwhelmed by road noise.
