Clutch Munched Bad

Peeps: My clutch is screwed! This morning driving to work I clutched to shift into 6th, and when I did the pedal stayed down on the floor. I reached down and was able to pull it back up. At this point the clutch was slipping slightly under throttle, so I thought I'd better stop and get it checked out. When I stopped I realized that I could push down the clutch pedal and pull it back up again with no spring reisstance, so that right there told me that something was probably wrong with the master or slave cyl. Got it towed in.
The shop called me this afternoon. They say that the slave cylinder actuator rod is somehow driven out of the slave cylinder (haven't seen it, trying to recreate their account of the damage) Also there is apparently a small observation port in the clutch bellhousing. Looking inside there they say that they can see that the clutch actuator fok is broken off and there is a ball bearing loose in the housing. Looks like I'm getting a new clutch. Anybody every had a problem with the actuator fork breaking like this?

Well I'm just repeating what they said, and all they've been able to do is look through some little viewing port. Is there not some kind of fork thingie in there? My 73 VW had one and it also had a pressure plate.

When I get into my G during the cold morning, my clutch pedal takes longer to fully return up. I can lift my foot off of it before it comes back up. Once I work it a little and the engine warms up it's fine. What is the cause of this?

heres my update. i took the vehicle to the dealership and told them about the problem i was having. immediately after telling the service advisor, she said that my clutch master and slave cylinder would be changed out. i guess this is a common problem that they are fixing now??

the clutch pedal feels much better now and has not stuck to the ground yet. it fully returns to its upright position without me pulling the pedal up with my foot.
