So I went in today to get my door locks fixed and also to get an inspection.

The Dealer said that my clutch is slipping.. not covered under warranty and it's going to cost me almost 2 grand for them to do it for me.

I live in san jose, ca - does anyone know where I can get a good deal for a new clutch & install??

 

2 grand? Ha Ha You could atleast ask them to use lube before they bend you over.

Look in the vendor section or ebay. You can get a new clutch and flywheel for 500-700. Have it installed at a local shop for 500-600.

If it's 2 grand to fix your clutch...you might as well purchase the Infiniti Elite Warranty which covers everything. I have an 04 6MT and I just got the warranty the other day at Infiniti Redwood City for $1700. Funny though, I took mine to the dealer too and they said my clutch was riding high. They quoted me 2k also. But our MTs have a natural high engagement point clutch...

yep,.. find a local performance shop, and get a exedy stage 2 or 3 and ur cost will be nearly half price man,......AND upgraded!

 

What ever you do to replace your clutch replace your throwout bearing too.
You don't want to be like the other member on here that replaced his
clutch and in a few short months need a new throwout bearing....costly
mistake! When looking for a new clutch check our Marketplace for a

The dealer will nickel and dime you to death. With the.."And oh, buy the way" you need to replace the dingle-dongle too

 

+1 on ART, although the through out they sent me wasn't oem and didn't fit the release sleave. Had to get the oem bearing from nissan. Maybe they sent me the wrong through out idk?!

 

Are you SURE your clutch is bad? My dealer told me my clutch is "wearing out" and that I needed to replace it for about $2000. That was about 1 year and 15,000 miles ago. Still riding on the same clutch. If you notice it slipping yourself, then I'd say replace. If you're just going by the dealer's word, I would get a 2nd opinion.

I'll just drive it until I feel a big difference. In the meantime, I'm going to learn more about clutches and how they work. Anyone have any places I can look to learn more about the mechanics? I did a search, but it's mostly littered with other things.

If you haven't noticed it slipping, then it's probably not... or at least not bad. Drive it for a little while and see if it gets worse. A clutch will not heal itself if it's slipping.
