Ticking\Chattering Noise from Engine area FIXED!

for everyone that has experienced a ticking or chattering noise coming from the engine area.....

I have been hearing a ticking noise just everyonce in a while, when i drive for a while i hear a ticking noise at the end of the day or sometimes when im driving, and NEVER when at the DEALER, i went to the dealer 3 times and nothin then finally i drove my car hard, and once i heard the noise went straight to the dealer and drove with the mechanic but no noise again!! untill i stopped the car and let go of the clutch... and finally he heard what i heard TICK TICK TICK TICK..... i press the clutch and the noise goes away.. he said i need a new tranny, 5 mins later im done... and getting my tranny replaced when it comes in next week. finally!!

so if you experience this same problem try stopping the car and let go of the clutch... makes a ticking noise.. take it to the dealer for a new tranny!.. and its covered by warranty

hope this helps

What???
How bad was the noise? There are several other threads about this and the overall consensus is that it if just something with the clutch that makes that noise when not engaged. Please let us know if the noise goes away with the new tranny b/c I will be at the dealer asap.

That's absolutely great, you're having your trans replaced for what is probably
a worn out throwout bearing. I had the same noise on my Z when the clutch
was disengaged....good for you! Have them replace the throwout bearing even if you gotta pay....

yeah it's the throwout bearing

it'll still make the noise when it's brand new

hmmm veru interesting, i always thought it was the clutch, and not the tranny. My coupe does the same thing after a long drive.

hello all.
even though this is my first post, i thought i give some input on this.

i had the same exact problem with the "ticking" noise after heat soaked.
so i took it to a dealer, and they will be replacing the transmission.
their conclusion is that i have "faulty input shaft".

i will get my throwout bearing replaced as well while they're in there just to be sure.

for those of you who lives in they bay area, i highly recommend you to take your car to Bayshoff Infiniti.

they will diagnose your problems in detail and not just write it off saying "can not duplicate problem" as most dealers do.

and then they come back and just tell me nothings wrong

From reading through the forums, it looks like it depends on the dealer whether or not they will charge you for the throwout bearing (or even the clutch assy).
They should be charging for them as they are wear and tear parts, but I guess some ppl are lucky to get them for free.
I am hoping that I am one of those lucky ppl.

I think you need to go find another dealer...
That's ridiculous.
Sounds like they don't even wanna try to fix your problem...

update: i got the tranny replaced with the throwout bearing which is included with the transmission so i didnt get charged.. :-D .. they told me i needed a new clutch cuz mine only had 10% of life left, my car has only 35k miles on it no grinds or slips?? and they were gonna charge me 1600 for ACT clutch and flywheel or 2gs for stock, i didnt wanna pay that much so i didnt have them do that.. got the car back a lil over a week ago.. the noise is back!! its even louder now.. and its hard to put it into 1st and 6th gear.. never had this problem before so im thinking its the clutch so i just bought a new ACT clutch and flywheel for a member on here for 7bills :-D!! i jus got some questions for someone who had their tranny replaced before..

-was it hard to switch into gears at first?
-ive read alot where people who got a tranny replaced, also had to get the new one replaced too... what was wrong with the first tranny? why did it get replaced ??

thanks all!!
