2005 G35 AT rattle when shifting to 2nd

Hi Guys,

I get metal rattle (the noise which comes from a OLD alarm clock coil or the coiled toys we had like a century ago) from under my hood ( from the driver side ) when I take out my car in the morning, it just last a second and is very low profile, i cant hear it if music is playing on volume level "5" or "6".

I get it only on a cold start in the mornings or when I start my G after few hours of parking. I hear rattles are common with the coupes but my warranty is out this May and was wondering if I have to get it checked out.

I have 26900 miles on my G and was planning to take it for transmission refill or flush next month ( I thought that may be the root cause ).

Also I hear a lot of debate on Flush or "Drain and fill", which is better ?

How much does Infiniti charge for it ?

Any suggestions on good mechanics near Foster City, CA highly appreciated ( I HATE INFINITI DEALERS, because they charged me just for inspections in the past even though I was under warranty)

Please help me out !!!

the rattle is the abs system checking itself
its a normal thing nothing to worry about

i was at a nissan dealer last week and asked how much for the transmission fluid change the guy there said $129 for 4 quarts of the fluid "drain and fill" or all of it for $189 "drain and fill"
but since you 26900 miles on it you really dont need to do it until after 50000 miles or so

idk which is better on the flush or drain and fill

My car is same as yours, 05 Coupe with AT. The noise occurs when the RMP goes up about 1k5, not when it shifts from first gear to second gear. I brought the car to Infiniti dealer twice to have it checked, and the dealer told me it's from the ABS self-check. So it's normal. If you want to make sure that every car makes the same noise, tell them to have you test drive other G in the park which I did. I told them that I drove my friend's car and i didn't hear the noise, so they let me test drove another G in the park and it made the same noise.

You dont have to worry about the transmission because i'm sure the noise is not from the transmission. If it's from the transmission, then it would make noise every single time it shifts from first gear to second. But in this case, it makes noise once and after that, it smooths out.

lol MT does the same thing as AT does. It's from the ABS self-check. A lot of G drivers have the same noise and there's still no way to get rid of it. I'm just wondering why the ABS self-check in the G is making such as loud noise.

that's the best way, bring it in to have them check it and let us know what they said.

Could it be the ABS check the car runs? Does the noise sound like metallic, or like a farting noise almost?

Yea, that's what they told me, ABS self-check. The noise is metallic, like the front wheels are rubbing with the rubber thingy under the fenders. But it's pretty quick though, 1 sec and then it's gone. After that, it's fine. I also test drove another G in the Infiniti dealer, and it made the same noise or even louder than what my car is having. I think there's nothing to worry about.

My car has the same noise. 1.5k rpms like a coiled springy noise. My concern is that it just started making that noise about 2 months ago, before that it never made that noise. I just dont want to take it to the dealer cause they charge 150/hour to diagnose a problem! Does anyone know why this happens all of a sudden?
