Auto Trans service DIY

I want to change the fluid, and pickup filter/screen on my 5AT...

Has anyone taken the pan off? Do I need a new pan gasket?

Is there a magnet in the pan like most autos?

Where can I source the pickup filter/screen, other than a dealer?

Thanks,

Mike

I'll answer my own questions....

I got on the phone with mynismo.com...
- They have the gasket ($20 at the time of this post) and the Matic-S/J fluid ($8.63/qt at this time).
- Recommended just cleaning the filter/pickup screen, since it is just a screen.
- Yes, there's a magnet in the pan as with other autos.
- Recommended I get 5 quarts for this service, as a bit more than 4 will come out in the process.

A to www.mynismo.com - fast, friendly, helpful.

Why would you need to drop the pan when there is a drain plug?

1) To inspect the magnet, to evaluate the condition of the transmission.

2) To clean the pickup/filter of any accumulated crud.
