Notchy 5th gear

Wondering if anyone else has this problem. It is impossible to row into 5th quickly. When you try, you get 'caught' on a notch along the right side of the gate in the neutral area. I took it in to the dealer and they said they will 'look' at it.

Anyone know if it is a simple fix?

Re: Notchy 5th gear

This has happened three times to my tranny, each time I take it in, the replace the whole transmission. I have had the car about 4 months and it has been in the shop about 5 weeks. This latest time they told me an "official" fix will be out in late April or May so the next time my tranny goes, should be the last. Of course by then, I am just going to ask for a new car under the AZ lemon laws.

at least your dealership recognizes it as a problem. I took my car in and they told me it's supposed to be that way.

Should I take it in again? or just wait till April or May to report it and get the fix? I don't want another crappy car wash from them.

Re: Notchy 5th gear

It is not supposed to be that way. I proved it to the dealer by checking out another 6MT on the lot. It shifted just fine. I am hoping it is just a simple gate adjustment.

rambo thats the same explenation the Infiniti Tech manager gave me.

Does anyone make a short throw shift kit for our car? I know it's supposed to be a short throw, but I want to make it even more of a shorter throw. Just enough to shift at the flick of a wrist.

Re: Notchy 5th gear

Soooooooo.

I took the ride in for a 'fix' of the notchy 5th gear action. Guess what? They don't know what it is. They said there is nothing to adjust. Maybe it is the syncros. They have to wait till Nissan gets back to them. They are real busy.

Isn't that nice! They're BUSY! What am I?

The 5th gear resistance doesn't feel like syncros. It is no problem getting it into 5th IF you can line it up properly. But the right side of the gate doesn't provide any guidance, since you get stuck in a 'notch'. You have to ease it back 1/4" before you can throw the stick up.

Needless to say, I'm not impressed!
