Do I have to worry about breaking a gear

I am going back and forth about getting a auto or 6mt g35. What I am worried about is I currently own a maxima and after about 350-400fwtq they are know to break 3rd gear at any time. I have broken 2nd gear n/a and a buddy has broken 3rd along with a few other friends. I was wondering just how common is this problem with the 350z/g35 crowd or do you guys just break the whole tranny. I've done that too
