Yes, another "Help me diagnose this RATTLE" thread
So, I've been searching and haven't really gotten all the answers I want to my problem. It seems pervasive enough that someone should be able to help me.
When I am accelerating from low RPMs to ~3k I frequently hear a rattle (someone here also described what I think is the same sound as a dragging chain) coming from under my car. I'm guessing this sound is coming from the tranny. I don't hear the infamous flywheel rattle when idling. I only hear this rattle sound when accelerating under load.
I recently had an HR y-pipe installed. I was hoping that the rattle I heard was from a heat-shield, and having the new y-pipe with the rubber dampers on it might help. Well, that didn't take care of anything.
This leaves me to believe that it is either coming from the tranny, or from a loose timing chain. What can I do on my own to determine what might be the cause? I'd really love to have this taken care of, since it is the only thing preventing me from fully appreciating my G.
Thanks.

Just wanted to post an update on what's happened with my rattle. It's either significantly reduced or gone altogether now, and for a reason I would not have expected.
Today I just replaced my front brake pads. In the course of doing that, I noticed a lot of loose rust had built up in the caliper pistons. I knocked the rust out, of course, and went on to replace the pads.
When I took the car out afterwards to bed the pads, I notice that I wasn't having the low rpm rattle anymore. Now I'm not sure if it was the rust, new pads, or something else, but the noise seems to be gone. Well worth checking out if people are still hearing the rattle.
