So I've searched around here and haven't made much headway...

My car definitely has the axle click symptoms. Do I need to fix it? What happens if I don't? Should I take it to a dealer? I'm not terribly handy so I wouldn't mind paying someone else to do it.

If there is a thread I missed, please point me in the direction of it.

I printed it out, brought it to my mechanic, they did what the TSB said (basically they just grease a flange on the outter joint of the driveshaft) and the problem hasn't come back since I had it done over a year ago.

I don't think it will cause any real problems if you don't get it done, other than maybe some premature wear on it a little from friction maybe. It's more of just an annoying sound than a real problem. I say get it done, it doesn't cost much.

 

I still can't figure out why this TSB doesnt apply to the 06.....I have the issue as well

 

Playa24_7... how much did this run you to get it fixed at the shop?, if you dont mind me asking..

 

To be honest I'm not sure lol. I helped this guy with some computer stuff and he did it for free. I guess I should have said that I ASSUME it doesn't cost much lol.

I can't see it taking more than an hours labour if that, the TSB even says that one side well take less than an hour (0.7 hours). I only did the right side on mine because the other side wasn't making a sound and still doesn't.

I say print out this TSB, show it to your mechanic, and ask them how much they think it would cost to do. All they are doing is disassembling part of the drive shaft, greasing it, and putting it back in, so I can't see them charging you much.

 

Wow I thought I'd never find the solution to this problem. Mine clicks like crazy!

 

I saw a DIY for the fix. How good are you with tools? Take off the hub, clean the axle, and grease it up with white lithium grease. Thats about as difficult as it was to fix.

 

How important, if it is important, do you think it is to use the specified grease, apply proper torque settings, and replace the nuts/ bolts/ washers that they recommend on the print out?

 

Torque settings are important, white lithium grease you can pick up at your local auto store for $3-4 for a can. I would reuse the nuts/bots/washers.

 

Can't wait to cop a $25 torque wrench from WAL*MART this weekend and try this out.

It doesn't seem that bad now, but I plan on keeping this car until atleast 100k (68k now) so I might as well keep it running smoothly.

 

If they got a harbor freight near you, you can pick up a torque wrench for 15 bucks

 

I just had the Axle click fix done on my '06.

Unsure why the TSB doesn't state '06...but my dealer did it for me with no probs at all

 

hey mustang, i have the exact same ride 06 g35X sedan.....dealer said couldn't duplicate when I brought it in for something else....didn't have time to ride with them but they said to keep them updated and bring it back....which tsb are you referring to so I can just show them? is it the compression rod tsb? or?

also, how'd they fix yours? greasing?
