I NEED EVERYONES OPINION! Transmission Fluid Service.
I have heard this alot. I am going to drain a bit out of the pan and see how bad off it is. I kinda drive like an old lady these days and dont beat the $hit out of my car so i think it might be in somewhat ok condition. You mentioned a filter. Theres a filter? Where is it located and how might I find out how to replace it? Thanks alot for your help.
ALSO, www.infinitipartsusa.com is having a great sale on Matic S and if you add them on twitter and facebook you get a $10 promo code for both. For purchases of $100+ you can use both on one order. Sorry for spamming there but i thought it was a great deal. Ended up getting 13qts for $90!

The filter in our cars is non serviceable, and you do need to drop the pan to replace it. Its probably not needed for you though, but I had mine replaced when I rebuilt my tranny.
[QUOTE=ITSAGTHING;4644299]OK, So I know everyone feels very strongly one way or another when in comes to changing transmission fluid and what type of fluid should/can be used. Of course we SHOULD use Matic J/S. But what about Mobil1 ATF? Also, my 04' sedan has 118,000 miles on it and runs great. Unfortunately, I purchased it at 26,000 and have not changed the ATF fluid yet. Many people say that at this point I should not change it at all because the transmission is "used" to the fluid that is in it ($). QUOTE]
There is a little bit of truth in some of the 'do not change statements'. Basically you really want to get a look at the fluid to see if it is severly discolored. If not then I would change the fluid, drive it for maybe half the schedule and then change it on schedule from then on.
If it is discolored then it may mean that the insides of the transmission has some varnished surfaces which may be acting like seals on various parts. There is some truth in changing the fluid may cause a leak which then can lead to failure down the road. However changing the fluid may not cause any leaks either.
If you are going to keep the car not changing the fluid means you will almost without fail have a failure down the road earlier than you should as the fluid most likely has particles entrained in it. The discolored fluid also pretty much means that the lubricating capabilities of the fluid has been compromised as well as its heat dissipation abilities. Normally I would say not to bother dropping the pan but if the fluid has never been changed and it is severly discolored then I would to make sure the filter has not been compromised as well. You may see nothing or you may not. If you are handy probably not all that hard to do but I have never done this on an Infiniti.
In any case dirty fluid is not good for your transmission any more than dirty oil is good for your engine.
