Throw out bearing?
Throw out bearing?
I have this grinding/ chattering noise coming from my trans while changing gears. It kind of sounds like the flywheel chatter you get when the car is in neutral. The sound definitely changes with rpms because the higher the rpms the faster I can hear the noise/ trans spin. Also it only does it when the car is cold. When it gets warm the sound either goes away completely or just dissipates to where I cant hear it. As far as the trans itself goes everything seems fine, shifts fine, no grinds, no pedal sticking. If it wasnt for the sound you wouldnt even think anything was wrong. So, could this be the throw out bearing? Are they covered under warranty? I dont know if it helps but it just hit 50K this morning, its an 05 6MT.
Update. I noticed yesterday that it doesnt just do it when the clutch pedal is pushed in. Right after accelerating, when you remove your foot from the gas pedal, the rpms beging to fall and it will make the noise regardless if the clutch is in or out. Still only does it when cold though. I am going to change the oil today and see if that has anything to do with it.
Its the oem flywheel. I am almost certain that it isnt the throw out bearing now. Im afraid its worse. I checked the oil last night to see if that had anything to do with it and found that it was way below the "low" line on the stick. Since its an 05 M/T I kind of have feeling it has the oil consumption problem. I chenged the oil in it and it didnt make the noise at all the whole way to work today. So that leads me to believe that it wasnt the trans at all, it was the engine. I guess I am going to take it to the dealership the first of next week and get them to check for the oil consumption problem.

It will be checked weekly from now on lol. I called the dealership today and they when it comes time to change it again to just bring it in and let them do it, then they will start the oil consumption test.
