'06 5AT jumps hard when put into gear

Every time I put it in reverse or drive the car will completely lunge HARD... ..has anyone else experienced this?

It seems like I am putting a 500hp car into reverse and just doesn't seem normal but I have to ask because I do not remember the last time I drove an automatic before I purchased this car.

I have 39K miles and still under warranty..

How high is the idle before you put it in gear??

I do notice that when i put my car in D or R, the back end of the front end of the car will lift slightly. It's like the drivetrain loads up slightly against the brakes. Nothing violent, but i can raise or lower the rear and front by 1/2 to 1" or so./

do you only notice this on cold startup? the RPMs are higher when it's warming up in P and takes a second to lower the idle when switching to D or R

The RPMs are around 2-2.5k when I put it into gear...

I guess I should probably let it idle down to 1.5k or 1k before I put it into gear.

I really do not give the car chance to run very long long before I take off. I usually start it and go so that is more than likely the problem, operator error...

I live in FL and the temps here even in the winter stays in the 50s and warms to the 70s in the daytime so the car shouldn't take too long to warm up.

How long or what RPM do you usually let the car warm up to before putting it into gear?

You don't need to let it warm up, but damn, 2-2.5k?? When I start mine dead cold its like 1.5k, how the hell is yours up that high? Of course your car is going to jerk hard when your revs are that high putting it into gear, as mine does it at 1.5k. Something isn't right with that...

Idk if this is right but driving the car slowly warms the engine up faster than just letting it sit. By time I get out of my neighborhood im all warmed up.

Lol. 50's is a warm day to me.

It's beenin the teens and 20's here lately. I start my car, give it 30 seconds or so to put my seatbelt on, adjust the heat and radio and then i put it in gear and drive off easy. By then, the RPM's have dropped to around 1000RPM. Never really feel it lunge when i put it in D.

I just drove it 10 mins ago and it's 26 degrees outside. Didn't lunge at all.

How long do your RPM's stay up around 2.5K? That seems high. I think mine only revs up to 1.5K on cold startup.

Good god man let your car sit for 30seconds to a minute before just slamming it in gear.

Nothing is more painful than watching people slam their cars in gear the second they turn it on.

A guy I work with thinks letting it idle is a waste of gas. It will be 10 degrees outside and he'll start his car up and as soon as the RPM's peak on startup, he's driving off....literally a second after starting.

I'd give him crap for it saying he should at least let the oil begin to circulate, but the car has 215K miles on it with him driving it just like that.

Let me correct the numbers...

I just went out for a minute and the idle is 1.5 on a cold start. When I put it into drive it was at 1k and it still lunges pretty hard. Not sure if it is a transmission problem or my car just needs a tune up?

Well, i checked this AM. 25 degrees on startup. Gave it a min, then put it into D and did get a little lurch forward.

I guess the question is does the OP feel the same amount of lurch that others are feeling, or is his more?

I guess i got used to it cuz i never notice it

is the OP pushing the brake all the way in when changing to R or D? If you don't hold the brake tight enough it can lurch, but mine barely jerks me when I change
