P1764 Manufacturer Control Transmission

Coming down the garage from the 10th floor to the street level, the engine light came on. The AT transmission seems to be stuck on 3rd gear! It takes a while to get the car going from dead stop. Once the car gets on the freeway. The car was placed into manual shift mode, but the car would not go from 3rd to 4th gear. After leaving the car at level ground for over 2 hours, now the car drives fine but with the P1764 Manufacturer Control Transmission code from ODB II. What's going on? Any suggestions?

Clutch control solenoid valve.... there is a connector on the passenger side of the transmission. Sometimes moisture can get into it and cause problems. Clean it and see if it works. If there it does not work, check the fluid color, your transmission could be toast and you might be needing a replacement. Just happened to my sister's 350z two weeks ago. She ended up having to get a new transmission. At least stop driving, you could be burning the clutches.

Do I need to drop the oil pan to see the connector?

Nope its on the side of transmission. If it looks fine, your best bet would be to find a place that has a consult II (I suppose the dealer is the only place) and they might tell you replace something in the valve assembly inside, but I'm pretty sure they would end up telling you that you would need a new transmission. Not even sure if they sell the parts separately....

My sister ended up not saying anything for a few days and kept driving it like that because the problem would come and go, but eventually just riding around being stuck in 3rd or 4th gear took its toll.

Already tried the dealership. They want $4500 to replace the transmission! I am trying to avoid that. Back in December, the radiator cracked on the car causing transmission fluid to get inside the radiator and coolant inside the transmission. The dealer replaced the radiator with 20+ hoses and flushed the transmission twice. The car runs fine for about 1500 miles until now.

Try finding a used one locally, I just google'd around found a place not too far from me that had one with 19k miles and 6 mon warranty for 700 picked up. If you're not a diyer, I'm not really sure how much a repair shop would charge to replace a transmission, but I'd say about 4-5hrs flat rate charge maybe. If you are a diyer, get some jackstands and a jack and some basic tools. A really strong friend helps too, lol. BTW they have service manuals on a website I don't think I can post..... starts with 350z and ends with tech.com.

If your good, you could try to prove that the dealer was liable for the damage, but thats going to be a tough one. Good luck!

Checked on the connectors as you described. There are several of them. I was unable to do anything about them because the CATs were burning hot. I will try to clean them this weekend.

Strange thing happened today. After it stopped raining, the engine light cleared itself and the car now shifts just fine. So I don't think it is the physical gearbox that's causing the problem. But something electrical is not working right. I will clean the connectors over the weekend and see what happens next. Yes, I checked on the transmission oil every night and it is clean.

Did you ever find a solution?

Having the same problem and I just bought the car last week , I AM NOT HAPPY WITH INFINITI to say the least... hoping its just moisture or dirty connection because I cant afford to replace the transmission.
